NCAA softball still dominated by regions

One more hurdle for NC players...

One other factor that I see in the realm of college softball is very little accessibility to 23u teams in NC. If you look out west there are numerous teams and tournys to participate in. I know of only 2 in NC that offer invitations to ladies over 18 to play. This summer I personally have been contacted by 6 or 7 collegiate players that are used to playing all summer stuck with nothing. My DD has contacted those we know about and she was told they would get back when they start a team and as of yet heard nothing. She plays DI and feels she can't "keep sharp" without competition If we look at our baseball counterparts and their infinite resources to fields, coaches and opportunity you will notice a general incline in talent level from freshman year to their senior year(if they are not drafted). I believe that playing during the summer greatly enhances one's skills immensely. From what I have notice that generally(certainly not all cases) stat numbers begin to fall in players JR. and SR. years. I think there is a direct correlation between not playing in those summers. IMHO

I agree with a good majority of it. We are part of a SC based team that bucks the norm in our state. Play with and against the best you can find and you will be better for it. I am in extreme minority saying this needs to happen much younger than most realize. 12U is the latest to step it up. Too often people wait until they are Jr in High school and think they are doing the right thing. I promise that is way too late. With big colleges attending ASA 14U Nationals should give you a hint that things need to be on a quicker timetable. Really would like to see some 23U teams popping up. There is no doubt that would help college players.

While not being a big time poster here I respectfully disagree with a number of posters here who are thinking
ACC Softball can achieve WCWS championships with better coaching salaries , facilities and ball parks ,etc...
I have watched a number of travel ball tournaments ,high school games as well as college teams play softball
and in my opinon what needs improving is coaches philosohies on hitting ( swing mechanics )
While a number of you think better pitching will stop good hitting is a true statement for NC softball it will not
necessarily hold true for the west coast .. Most of those girls are not taught to swing down on the ball ,squish
the bug ,throw hands at ball, but are instead taught how to load the core , shift weight to the front side and swing
quickness ..
Sec and Pac 10 softball programs and others have long ago adopted Candrea/Enquist RightView Pro hitting philosohies
and have successfully been returning to the WCWS finals ...

Simply making weak contact wont cut it anymore. I have no idea what ACC coaches are teaching but I can tell you there aren't many teaching what you see Florida and Georgia doing. I remember Hawaii approach last year was also quite different than the norm.

The better pitcher won the WCWS again this year however! against some pretty good hitters! Florida included. It is interesting to look at the rosters from florida, georgia and arizona state (among others) to see the starting lineups are typically loaded with the west coast kids. arizona state - u would expect this to be the case. but georgia and florida? a familiar pattern starts to emerge! it would be interesting to see how many and which schools from the east coast tried to recruit the pitcher from arizona state.

 

Hitting would be a great thread for this forum but you can't discuss anything here unless everyone agrees with each other. And that's not going to happen while discussing hitting.

The main thing I see the Florida batters doing is a proper load and a good aggressive fundamentally correct swing. The other thing I noticed is when they get two strikes on them they go into another mode—they swing at anything they can hit, they're not looking balls or strikes.
