    Signed Players

Some players continue to play and some go on and play Legion or something like that.
A lot of the players who are signed continue to play and go to East Cobb and then Jupiter. They do that to get in front of Pro Scouts and I am sure they love playing at the 2 places. I guess it would be nice if a team is made up of all unsigned players. But on the other hand if you are unsigned I am sure those scouts like to hang around and look at the the players who are playing with the signed guys. You would think that they would be pretty good to be playing with the signed guys.

some players continue to play showcase ball because that is still where the best competition is, some also play because they are hoping that there are chances to get looks from pro scouts (less likely, but possible). I would say that definatley because the competition is greater than legion nowadays which is a shame.

Regardless of who's the best...keep the standard high so as an umpire I get to see good baseball every weekend I work. I've worked a few weekends where there were some teams that had no business being on the field with the likes of the Canes, Dirtbags, CBC, Heat, SCP, etc. I love working a game where the coaches understand the reason for showcase but the kids also compete because there is a little pride in your team when you compete against the better teams in the area.

Respectfully, I have to get used to the CBC/O's merger...when I mention CBC I lump the O's right there with them...to exclude the O's is to live in a cave regarding showcase.

Year in, year out Cubs have been one of the best organizations in the state. The list of players and ex-players filling the college rosters is very impressive...and this has been going on for many, many years.

The Firecracker Classic, one of the premiere events of the summer, concluded with these teams:

Championship game was the Mid Atlantic Canes vs. the Carolina Cubs. Both teams had to play 2 games back to back Sunday before reaching the championship game Sunday afternoon.

The game ended in a TIE!!!

So I continue to say that the Cubs are one of the elite showcase organizations in NC

EDIT: I grabbed this from their website

182 Players committed to play College Baseball

    D-1 Signees: 122
    D-II Signees: 21
    D-III Signees: 9
    Juco Signees: 30

30 Players selected in MLB Draft

    First Round: 1
    Top 5 Rounds: 4
    Top 10 Rounds: 9
    Top 20 Rounds: 20

    Parity

No question, Cubs are a great organization with very good players. To me it indicates the parity in the top tier organizations in NC, SC and VA.

At the Firecracker, Pool A consisted of NVTBL Stars, Carolina Cubs 2011, East Cobb Braves 2011, National Patriots (VA) and the SC Panthers 2012.

At the end of pool play:
    NVTBL Stars 3-1
    Carolina Cubs 3-1
    SC Panthers 3-1
    EC Braves 1-3
    National Patriots 0-4

    Cubs lose to Panthers 11-3
    Stars lose to Cubs 10-0
    Panthers lose to Stars 7-3

Tiebreaker goes to runs allowed: Cubs 14, Panthers 15, Stars 17

Cubs go on to bracket and tie Canes.

IMO, any team on any given day can win. Cubs are class group, fun to play.

On the other hand, it was an extreme joy and pleasure to see the East Cobb Braves have it handed to 'em three times and send them home in shame in their camo jerseys. They were poor sports, poor losers and deserved everything they got. Must have been the umpires!
