    Hard hit ground ball to pitcher. Pitcher misplays ball (should have been easily handled). Ball continues directly to 2nd baseman (should have easily handled it) who lets it go through his legs. Clearly, there was plenty of time for 2nd baseman to get runner out had he made the play. Batter/runner makes it safely to first base. Who gets the error????....:bike:

    Hard hit ground ball to pitcher. Pitchers should not be assumed to be able to make plays on hard hit ground balls. There job is to throw strikes and balls. If the ball did not continue onward to the 2nd baseman where it went (between his legs), whatever parent is keeping the book would make the call, but you stated hard hit. If you believe the 2nd baseman had plenty of time to get the runner at 1st not 2nd... (if a man was on 1st) then the error would be considered on him the 2nd baseman.

    2nd baseman gets the error. Please tell me that the centerfielder finally stopped the ball.:dizzy2:

    Contradition???

    Hard hit = No error on pitcher

    Should have been easily handled = Yes error on pitcher

    Can you give more details?

    Certainly, Stretchy....

    batter made good contact....but it was a Sunday hop to the pitcher who assumed an easy play and it hit the heel of his glove. Nothing more complicated than that. It was a ball that had it not headed for the 2nd baseman, the pitched would have been charged with an error. But the #4 guy misplayed it as well.

    2nd base error if it was routine play for him and went between his legs after " good contact". Pitchers are not expected to be charged with fielding errors on sharply hit balls. Should the 2nd baseman even be charged with error on a sharply hit ball that deflects is the question here. In all my innings on the mound in HS, College D1 and Professional games, this situation has never happened. In coaching a ton of games I have never seen it. Great question PMD. It sounds like you want to give the error to the pitcher= cannot. Give it a knock.

    Definately need more information about how the pitcher played the ball, but 2nd baseman gets an E4 for letting it go thru his legs. Doubt 2 errors would be given on that play.
