    Winston Salem

I heard Winston Salem has internal problems.
They were at the top of there divison. Lots of late season losses.
Reminds me of Hunterville. It`s sad to hear these things.

Does anybody really know what bats are legal

Can someone please answer 1 or 2 questions for me? First of all - has there been a recent (last 2-3 days) change in what bats are legal for American Legion play? If so - why on earth would this change be made at this late date in the season? Does anyone really think that players that are playing their last weeks of competitive baseball because they are not continuing at the next level would purchase a new bat for $300 - $400 to use for potentially 2 games - or that players who are heading to play college baseball would purchase a new bat either at this point? Secondly - if there has not been a recent (again in the last couple of days) rule change - why have teams been allowed to play with "illegal" bats all season and only now is the rule being enforced? In my opinion - the last thing that Legion needs - at least in our area - is any more controversy or bad publicity. Declaring every bat in the dugout except one wood bat and one 32 oz bat illegal AFTER the first base hit of the game is preposterous. Please can everyone get on the same page and use some common (or uncommon apparently) sense? The rumor I heard was that it had something to do with NC rules being different than the National rules????? Did no one recognize this as a problem in May or earlier? I never cease to be amazed.

The bats have probably been illegal all season, I think, notice I said I think, a lot of people thought Legion was the same as HS bat rules and it was not. Probably came to the fore front because it is crunch time, and everyone is just now understanding that all HS bats are not legal. NC does nothing different from National rules in Senior Legion. I have listed the Legion bat rule below.

A Simply Rule For Bats For This Years 2011 Playoffs

    Any Wood Bat Is Permitted

    Any BBCOR Bat Is Permitted

ALL BESR BATS THAT ARE ONE PIECE ALUMINUM ARE LEGAL EXCEPT

ALL LOUISVILLE SLUGGER EXO GRIDS OF ANY MAKE, ANY 2 PIECE BESR BAT WITH A COMPOSITE HANDLE IS ILLEGAL FOR 2011

From Mr Jim Quinlan (American Legion Chief)

Simple issue made complicated by poor communication & lack of some to follow the rule once clarified.
#1 - issue was not resolved at the scheduling meeting, left unclear for whatever reason. No blame, just fact. Mistakes happen in the real world.
#2 - email from National Baseball Chairman on June 15th clarifying the rule & that it is to be followed. Sent to all AD's and coaches that are on the daily score update mass email list that "should" cover every program. If your program is aware of the standings daily then they were notified of the rule. Measure taken to fix first mistake. Some teams took note and followed the rule. Should have been the last of it; however, it is still ongoing for multiple excuses to not follow.
#3 - everyone complains about the rule, but only a few have adapted and followed a clear cut rule. Should they be at a disadvantage for following rules?? Don't know of any team that is legal that bought the first new bat to comply. Tried and could not find one. They simply went deep in the garage and pulled out a old bat that complies to the rule and used it. We had 12 legal bats in the dugout the next day & not a single one was recently purchased. Once again, National Legion officials have it right. The rule was decided upon for two reasons. First, to make it safer for pitchers and secondly, to have a rule that does not need a legal bat list. Anyone that tries to understand & can read can determine in less than 10 seconds if a bat is legal or not. The problem arises when folks read part of the rule and not the entire sentence. Sick of the people that are quick to bash someone from the couch. Want something better for the kids and the program??? Get off your butt and get involved for the right reason. Bring something positive to the table. Last point, do you get a speeding ticket if you get caught and really didn't know the speed limit??
