60 teams will be taking to the highways this week heading to GVegas for the Summer World Series event at ECU. Should be a Sizzling Showcase!

It's all about Baseball in Greenville this weekend!

In addition to the Dynamic Tournament, you have:

The Little League 11u Tournament of Champions at Elm Street Park (just a few blocks away from Clark LeClair Stadium at ECU). This annual event hosts all the 11u LL State Champions to determine the SE Champion. Elm Street is the annual host for this event. If you are in town, you owe it to yourself to stop by that park and take a look around. A historic and beautiful park, it is a gem in the SE of LL fields. Once you visit, it will be clearer why Eastern NC is such a hot bed of baseball. They learn to love it young.

Also in full effect is the Babe Ruth 14u SE Regional at Guy Smith Stadium. Again, a historic stadium and home to Greenville Babe Ruth, as well as, the NCHSAA 4A JH Rose Rampants. A great venue for baseball, rich with history and numerous baseball characters who hang out there.

While in town, plenty of places to eat, but here are a few local places if you have the time and gumption to seek them out:

1). Cubbies (Arlington Blvd) - locally known for it's cheeseburgers, hot dogs and cheesesteaks. Some of the best you will have. Great sweet tea, as well. All fresh prepared, yummy and a local haunt for baseball post games.

2). Parker's BBQ, Pete Jones BBQ, B's BBQ - All three are landmark BBQ places in the SE. Parkers has 2 locations in Greenville (Memorial Blvd, Greenville Blvd) on opposite sides of town. Memorial Blvd location offers "Family Style", which in essence is buffett, brought to your table. Pete Jones in Winterville has served Presidents and dignitaries for years. A little tuffer to find, but if you like BBQ, worth seeking out. Even tuffer to find is B's BBQ (Greenville, out behind the hospital area), as you may drive right past it and not know it. Opens early, serves till they run out. Both BBQ and BBQ Chicken worth seeking out, a true favorite of locals and visitors alike. Would be considered a hole in the wall by many, but some of the best eats you will ever toss down your gullet.

3). Ernie's Subs - Located right next door to Historic Guy Smith Stadium, the pepper steak all the way with mushrooms is one of the best heated subs you will ever eat. Good hamburgers and hot dogs as well. No seating, but worth grabbing a sub and heading to the ball park.

4). Professor O'Cool's, AJ McMurphy's, Tiebreakers - O'Cool's is most likely where you will bump into scouts and coaches after a day of tourney action. Food is usually good, and atmosphere is sports bar with walls plastered with HD TVs. Ice Cold adult BEvERages and very tasty wings and nachos make this a post game adult favorite. Good atmosphere to see and be seen while rehashing the days action and watching all the MLB games at once. I def like the grilled teriyaki wings. McMurphy's has a solid menu selection and cold beverages. Good place to wind down, with less noise. Less than a block away is Tiebreakers Sports Bar with a good atmosphere, tons of TVs, and good selection of LARGE wings (teradactyl wings,,, huge). They usually have live bands on the weekends as well and has become popular with the post game tourney adult crowd. So, if you wanna eat, probably best to get in and out by 730 or so.

    5) Marabellas - Pizza, Italian and it's good. Beats the heck out of Dominoes.

    6) Winslows, Atlantic Grill, Finelli's - Mom and dads who want to leave players at hotel pool and enjoy a night out may want to consider seeking out any one of these three local eateries for an enjoyable evening of semi-quiet and good food.

Just a few spots you may want to try, to get away from the franchise joints that you can eat at anywhere you go. Dixie Queen Restuarant in Winterville is off the beaten path with great seafood, Bill Ellis in Wilson (I believe I saw Fleming Stadium as a field used) is just down the road from the stadium and their buffett is ridiculously good BBQ, Chicken and tons more. Mayflower (Greenville and Wilson) is not bad and portions are huge, if you have hungry players that like seafood.

I will be roaming all three tournaments, when not treking to see the MHC Marlins play. Gotta hunt down my lil friend Stretchy...

Hope this helps you with some food diversity while you are Down East!

Be careful in Greenville after dark!!!

    ........:fish::14::tt1::dots::svengo:
Not to scare anyone but be cautious. Most of the city is not safe after dark and much of it is not safe during daylight. Don't travel alone!! But enjoy the baseball.

I think you have to be cautious anywhere you go these days, not just Greenville. Honestly, my oldest son attends ECU and I've been going to Gvegas for years, and Greenville's no different than any big city. You've got some dangerous areas in every city. :policeman:

Do not be afraid of a great city.....

Gvegas is a fine place as are all cities in NC......now if you are out trolling instead of concentrating on playing baseball this weekend then I am sure you will be asking for bad things to happen!

The best, most helpful advice I've ever read about eateries at a tournament. Plus the recommendations are done by a well developed dining palette, so you can bet these restaurants meet the standards for a showcase family.
