Looks like several college coaches are in and out according to what teams are playing and who they are here to look at. Could be as many as 10 or 12 at a game.

    Game 4....

The Huntington Hounds, of head coach Caleb Stewart, take the field here at ECU to take on the Canes North 2012 of head coach Mike Petty. On the mound today for the Hounds is Trey Salisbury and the Canes counter with Brock Hunter, a Coastal Carolina commit.

The Canes get the first run of the game on a double play ball by Connor Henderson and the Hounds come away with only yielding one run after allowing the bases to fill with none out.

Stretchy: "Hey fish don't let the scorekeeper give an rbi on that DP!!"

The Hounds bring one across with a RBI single by SS Alex Stephens and are still batting in the bottom of the fourth with the score now tied at one a piece. Hunter gets out of it and leaves Stephens stranded at third. Canes headed to bat in the top of the fifth with the score 1 to 1.

The Hounds are barking, as they have the bases loaded and no outs and Canes coach Mike Petty calls to the bullpen for UVA commit David Rosenberger to try and get them out of the jam. Pitcher Trey Salisbury helps himself with a two run single back up the middle through the drawn in infield and goes to second on the throw going into third. Drew Bechtel adds another run with a RBI groundout. Rosenberger gets out of the inning without any further damage and the Canes trail 4 to 1 going into the sixth.

After a lead off triple by Josh Henderson, a RBI groundout by Ryan Maguire, a walk to catcher Danny Haeuptle and an error by the Hounds, Coach Stewart has to make the call to the bullpen and bring in right hander Trace Dempsey to try and protect the two run lead with one out and runners on first and second. One pitch, two outs and the Hounds are out of it with a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

The Hounds load the bases in the bottom of the sixth with a walk to Zach Mullins, Alex Stephens reaches on a throwing error, followed by a single from Will Lester and a RBI single from Tyler Wells. Billy Sager adds two more to the Hounds tally with a 2 run single through the drawn in infield scoring Stephens and Lester and Wells takes third on the throw to the plate. Phillip Mandt follows with a sac. fly to left scoring Wells and the score is now 8 to 2. After a walk to Salisbury, Petty goes to the 'pen and summons RHP Connor Henderson. Henderson inherits runners on first and second with two outs and faces the catcher, Drew Bechtel. Henderson retires the side on a groundout to SS Matt Campbell(UNC) and after six full, the Hounds lead 8 to 2.

The Canes start the top of the seventh with singles from 3B Brandon Lowe(Maryland), 2B Tyler Best and SS Campbell, but only scratch one out on a WP. Dempsey then settles in and gets the next three in the Canes lineup down in order. The Huntington Hounds win this one with a final of 8 to 3.

    Game 5 at ECU...

Field crew is hard at work and teams are getting loose as we prepare for game 5 of the day here in Greenville. Game 5 will feature the Canes North 16u of Head Coach and Canes GM Jeff Petty and the Diamond Pros 16u of Head Coach Mike Trott. We will be getting started in just a bit... Coach Petty is running Alec Bettinger out to the bump and he will oppose Ben Hankey. We are ready to start, so will let everyone know what is happening as soon as it happens!

Canes strike first as RF Jake Fraley scores on a throwing error after he drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single by CF Porter Reinhart. SS Jack Gerstenmaier grounded to the SS and reached on the throwing error. 3B Charlie Cody delivers a 2 run single scoring Reinhart and Gerstenmaier and moves up to second on the throw to the plate. Canes catcher Steve Robinson rips a RBI double down the third base line, scoring Cody. At the end of the first inning, the Canes lead 4 to 0.

Bettinger is dealing boys and girls...strikes out the side in the second!!!

Diamond Pros scratch for a run in the top after Jake Fraley took over on the mound for the Canes in the top of the third. A hit batter, a walk, a wild pitch that was combined with a throwing error and Pros CF Jimmy Samski scores the first run of the game for his ballclub.

Nothing new to report her in the top of the fifth other than Andy McGuire(Texas) has taken over on the mound for the Canes.

The Diamond Pros come close after a walk to Matt Kline and a solid double down the LF line by Jose Figueroa, but McGuire retires the side.

The Diamond Pros come through with one in the sixth after Sheridan Doan drew a walk and scores from second on a Ron Farley single. Going to the bottom of the sixth, Canes lead 4 to 2.

Canes get that one back in the sixth when a two base error puts leadoff hitter McGuire on second, advances to third on a wild pitch and then scores on another wild pitch. Coach Trott comes to the mound and changes pitchers for the Diamond Pros. Nick Waite is now pitching for the Pros with a runner on first and no one out. Porter Reinhart draws a walk, steals second and scores on the RBI single from Jack Gerstenmaier. Gerstenmaier proceeds to steal second and reaches third on a wild pitch and Charlie Cody draws a walk as well. Gerstenmaier scores as Cody is caught stealing and the bases are now clear with the Canes leading 7 to 2.

Time limit catches up with us again and the North Canes 16u are the winners by a 7 to 2 score.

Gonna pack up and head back to Wilson, try to catch the tail end of the Wilson Bulldogs/Patriots National game and then get some much needed rest and be back down in G-Vegas in the morning.

    Later peeps!!!!

    Meltdown

Sorry for the long delay folks BUT my brain melted from the heat and it took a charter jet this long to fly me a new one from the hospital I was born in!

Back at the office after tending to an umpire that went down and out for the count, taken away on a stretcher at Tarboro Stadium where it had to have been 105 degrees! Send out a special prayer for this umpire tonight before you go to sleep.

Will be posting scores very soon!
