Another Carolina team/program to not overlook is GBC Prepstars. They played in the 16U Dynamic World Series at ECU this past weekend and won their pool which included the South Charlotte Panthers who they tied in pool play. Impressive since GBC is actually a 15U team with 2014 and 2015 grads. We'll see how they fare in their age division this weekend in Impact's 15U World Series at App and Dynamic's 15U WS later in August in Cary.

    nice

im guessing you all are probably dads of kids who didnt make the dirtbags. Maybe if the dirtbags pulled down their whole 17u team then they might make the playoffs like the caneas. they also combine 2 states. no matter what the dirtbags are still having kids commit left and right. and for the yak they are combining with kids all the way from california. when is the last time any of yalls team have won jupiter? does winning east cobb matter that much when kids are getting committed and getting drafted in the first round?

    No Doubt

There is no doubt about who the Dirtbags are or will be. AP has done an outstanding job promoting his teams and getting some of the best players in the state. And as long as he wants to be involved I am sure he will continue that tradition. I can say that even though my son didn't play for him. Maybe Braves or someone could give everyone on here a history lesson on showcase baseball and the explosion over the past several years. Personnally, I would like to see the stat on how many kids out of each program actually finished playing at the school they originally committed to, heck I have seen many kids from all programs commit to a school and never play an inning at that school. So for me its not how many they got committed, it's how many stayed where they went and actually contributed to the team. Lot's of times the coaches relationships get the kids committed but it sometimes gets the kids in over their head because of it.

P.S. Dont bring up kids playing from out of state cause The Dirtbags have done it too. Not saying it's good or bad but all teams are guilty of it when it comes to big tournaments.

I'll re-post some of AP's earlier interviews. They are very revealing. Also, I'm going to see if he has the time to do a current one.

"and for the yak they are combining with kids all the way from california."

I'm guessing you are a parent from the Dirtbags who may have had the Yak get under your skin because they're playing some good ball. :)
Your statement above is just not true. Yes. Yak does have a California team, but NO the Yak has not combined teams to win against the Dbags. They've won games all on their own. ...Oh there's been one exception....one team had a few california players run bases...nothing critical here.

Ya'll should be watching for the Yak. They are really coming together. For a young program...their kids are getting quite a bit of college attention.

    Not everyone....

MillerLite, you are incorrect when you say all NC teams bring in out of state players for the big tournaments. The Carolina Cubs have finished as high as runner up in last year’s WWBA and they have not and do not bring in out of state players. They have not won it all in Atlanta and cannot get into Jupiter but they do take home who they bring to the dance. Recent finishes are listed below. The same players that play at the UNC, NC State, ECU, UNCW, App State in Impact, Dynamic, and their own showcases play in Myrtle Beach and WWBA Atlanta without exception. This is simply not so for the other 2 "bigger" name showcase organizations. At the WWBA in Atlanta in 2009 and 2010 I can prove my point w/ the actual roosters submitted to the press box. This is why my son played for Ricky Keith and the Cubs and is why I am still involved w/ them. The top 4 or 5 showcase organizations in NC are all first class organizations and are lead by coaches who do everything possible for their players. But, not everyone brings in hired guns for the big tournaments. There is a difference in philosophies about whether it is more important to be loyal to your players or hang a banner on your web site.

    >2011 Champions - (Cubs 17U) Firecracker Classic @ Myrtle Beach, SC
    >2010 2nd Place - (Cubs 16U Blue) 16U WWBA National Championship @ Marietta, Ga
    >2010 Rd of 32 - (Cubs 16U Red) 16U WWBA National Championship @ Marietta, Ga
    >2010 Champions - 16U Impact World Series @ NC State University
    >2009 Champions - 16U Atlantic Coast Prep Baseball World Series @ USA Complex
    >2009 5th Place - 16U WWBA National Championship @ Marietta, GA

    Well Said

You are right every team should be loyal to the players who have played togther all year! In the long run your team will be better and play better. I have seen new players come in and you can tell the regular players do not like it along with the parents. I know the teams build there name by winning the big events! I think you can hurt your name by not being loyal. The players know that East Cobb FT Myers and Jupiter is where all the scouts are at and they are pumped up about the chance to shine. A good player will be great and a great player will be,,, The team has built that chemistry that I talk about!!

    Corrected if you say so

I stand corrected. They have brought in other players to use in big tournaments, I guess they were from N.C. Also, Mr. Keith does run a top notch program and nobody could argue that fact! To each it's own. There are many succesful programs and each ran a different way, that doesn't mean one is right and the other is wrong. I hope they all are succesful as it is keeping kids on the field and off the street!

It is a misconception that recruiters make recruiting decisions based upon their relationships with travel team coaches and the recommendations they make. Recruiters have far too much at stake to do so; as their livelihoods depend upon the quality of players they consistently bring to their program.

Observations are made with their own eyes and judgments are made based upon their own long experience in the game. Scholarship decisions are usually determined off of the collective judgment of the coaches as a staff.

It's true that it's not unusual for players to find themselves in a program for which they're not well suited. The reasons for their finding it that way are many; but, it's not because some travel team coach recommended them and they were offered a roster spot based upon that.

All big teams do things to win these National Events. I will say that I am impressed with all of the programs. GBC, YAK, Cubs, CBC, Canes, SCP and more. My son plays for the one that I think is the best because they are picked, after much observation and resaerch. All the boys are fantastic and should be applauded. My hats off to all the boys and families. Carolina baseball competes with any in the country.
