Not what we're used to when we travel

    Friday at Univ. of Houston
Cardinals vs NM Sundancers won 11-2
Cardinals vs NJ Intensity KOD tie 2-2
    Ronald McDonald Tourn.
Cardinals vs TX Challengers Gold won 6-0
Cardinals vs Dallas Tigers Gold won 9-0
Cardinals vs Alvin No Fear Gold won 14-0
Cardinals vs Cy Fair Starz Black won 17-0
Cardinals vs Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold won 7-2
Cardinals vs Arkansas Phenix Gold won 7-1

Scored 73 runs on 93 hits.
Our pitching (Katie Williford, Lexi Shubert and Brandi Hole) and defense was phenomenal allowing only 7 runs.
The pitchers gave up very few hits and the defense would take away whatever the other team tried to get started. I'm very proud of the way all my kids dominated their opponents. Every player contributed in every game.
No matter who you play, still got pitch, field, and hit. We did all those!
From a competition standpoint, there were a few good teams but several were not that good.
It was a good trip though. We had several colleges in attendance at our games including local DI's, NC State, Boston College, VA Tech, Campbell, and several schools from out west but not what we're used to when playing at Spring Klein the past two years.
Looking forward to the Sun Classic this weekend. We'll get to play a little better competition.

    The kids did good.

    Thanks Donnie.
I would have to say that the kids "brought it". They sure are fun to watch. I basically just stand at third and direct traffic.
As I said in an earlier thread, my kids play to win and have a good time doing it.
Just goes to prove what our brother Bill Harris once said, "Gold ain't nothin but a color", and in some cases that's so true. Anyone can call themselves gold. It's different when you have to prove yourself gold.
Now don't get me wrong, there are some beastly, true "gold" teams out there. We just didn't see what I consider gold level out of but maybe two teams this past weekend, and KOD's Intensity was one of those. We still competed well against them.
I am just excited to have the Sun Classic this weekend. It should be better competition for us.

Got To Brag On Our Girls Too!

The Cardinals- McKinney team had an exceptional weekend in Houston as well going 5-1. Our girls played some very talented teams with some big bats. Our pitching trio of Mackenzie Winslow, Beth Blackburn and Eliza Davis only gave up 5 earned runs in 6 games!

We had some exceptional clutch hitting by Whitley Miller, Sara Wright, Mo Cummings, Lexi Ross, Beth Blackburn, Mackenzie Winslow and Eliza Davis. It seemed whenever we needed the big hit with runners on, one of these young ladies stepped up and delivered!

Also, Lexie Ross had 16 stolen bases and Whitley Miller and Sara Wright had 4 extra base hits each and Mackenzie Winslow and Beth Blackburn added a pair of homeruns.

I could not be more proud of the effort and heart these girls brought to each game. We certainly turned some heads of not only of college coaches, but of those who thought NC fastpitch wasn't quite up to the level of the teams from TX and the midwest. The TX teams had just completed their high school season and definately didn't expect the teams from NC to come in and take care of business like we did!

Congrats to all the NC teams!

Here is how things went for us-

Cardinals vs Texas Lite Gold- Won 11-2
Cardinals vs San Antonio Gold- lost 2-3
Cardinals vs Batbusters Gold- Won 6-0
Cardinals vs MC Elite Gold- Won 5-1
Cardinals vs TX Lady Stros Won 5-1
Cardinals vs Colorado Quicksilver Won 3-2

Not bad for a true 16U team playing all 18U teams!

The way the schedule worked out, our game times were the same as Rick's Cardinals team the entire tournament and we played beside each other each game as well. It was fun to watch the college coaches walk back and forth between the two Cardinal games watching the NC girls take care of business in TX!

Congrats Ben and the Cardinals McKinney!

Everytime I turned around there was a loud cheer from the field behind us and everytime I looked to see what the commotion was, I would see another one of Ben's Cardinal kids crossing homeplate. Great job to all the Cardinal's kids!!!!
