I, personally, love it! Charlotte Catholic coming in is something that should have happened a long time ago. The athletics at Catholic, overall, is second to none. The influx of good baseball talent at Catholic has been steadily improving over the last several years and that trend should continue. It has become a very underrated baseball school. I am not too crazy about East Meck moving to the I-Meck, however. You're right, Braves, we need some more discussion on this.

Porter Ridge is an excellent addition, too. Yeah, I would hate to see East Meck move, but....great competition in IMeck...and fun additions, also.

Personally, I don't see travel as a problem and the conferences (for baseball) would be even better.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

    Conference 4
    Ardrey Kell
    Butler
    Charlotte Catholic
    Myers Park
    Olympic
    Porter Ridge
    Providence
    South Mecklenburg

    The Good:
Public prayer at least at one venue
Seniors 2012 don't have to be concerned
    AK/PHS Rivalry continues
    Jack Hughes Park

    The Bad:
How in the World does Olympic make sense?
Too much purple in the conference
480' CF Fence at Olympic (inside the park HR's??? OK, I know it's not that deep but it surely feels like it)

    The Ugly:
Trading the BIG I for the BIG O
Knights, Pirates and Trojans vs. the Animals
The "OUTER LOOP" between I77 and Hwy 74 at 4:30

Couldn't they spend their time trying to fix the playoff system in baseball instead? NO MORE ONE GAME PLAYOFFS!

    One major flaw

Hot dogs and cheeseburgers at East Meck, AND the best playing surface in NC ---- will be missed!

    When will it be final?

In case you didnt know it...
    1) the middle schools were realigned by "bell time" (4:15pm) so Southwest (olympic) now plays Carmel(south meck) and Quail Hollow (south meck) and community house (AK).
    2) Olympic already plays Catholic
    3) Olympic developed several players under the former coach. Rhodes? Who left with a 23+ win season with players like Corey Roberts.
    4) I remember a lefty 1b with a nice swing who hit 2 HR's over that fence in on 3a playoff game. (a former megastar). Name? Anyway. He could hit.

I know East Meck is an outstanding HS baseball facility and the work of the coaches and supporters is worthy of recognition and praise, BUT if you are talking about the best playing surface around you have to go with Charlotte Country Day...skin-tight turf equivalent to top shelf golf course fairways, super smooth infield and 15 foot groomed warning tracks. Add in the pro-style dugouts, state-of-the-art wide and high backstop netting, inning by inning scoreboard, and hi-tech sound system and you have a first class facility that rivals many small colleges. Charlotte Christian is great, but the big hump and valley effect where the infield dirt transitions to the outfield grass is less than desirable.

Kudos to East Meck and Charlotte Country Day and to their coaches and supporters!

    Location, Location, Location

No question, Olympic has talent and can compete....my comment was solely related to location.

    Clarification

Actually I should have mentioned that East Meck was moving to the MEGA 7 -- not the I MECK.........my bad! If you look at the new teams in the MEGA 7, East Meck and Independence should dominate that league similar to the way Catholic and Olympic have over the years. One additional note -- you're trading an excellent PA announcer at East Meck for the "king daddy" PA announcer at Catholic -- that's a definite upgrade ........just kidding WC Lion and ASU 86!!

The latest realignment has Alex Central(4A), LKN (4A) MSVL (4A) and Iredell county 3A schools. Not a fan of mixed level conferences. if this happens I guess they will drop the I out of I-Meck.
