Probably depends on whether they are winning or losing. Parents may be wanting to get back to the air conditioning.

At the travel ball level softball is not a game for girls, it is a business. The only way things will change is if it benefits the business. TD's have it down pretty good. Sign up as many teams as will pay you the money (if you want, you can tack on the word "showcase" at the end and raise the fee), give them an hour to play and throw in a "drop dead" rule (so what if it happens right in the middle of some kid's at bat, it is not like they didn't have their two minutes to shine, herd those two teams off the field quickly and herd two more on, when you make the schedule, be sure you keep they teams around for the full time so you don't miss out on concessions, gate fees and hotel kickback, and get some .50 trophies (better yet get some of those .20 medals they can hang around their neck) and you got yourself a business. I know that there is the expense of venue and umpires, but they still come away with a pretty good chunk of change for a couple of days work.

Fast pitch travel ball has never been played without time limits.

TB Fastpitch has always had time limits and they keep getting shorter and shorter. Sixty minutes drop dead is not even a softball game, it is a transfer of money from one hand to the other.

I know what showcases are suppose to be but almost every tournament I hear about lately is a showcase.

I don't know of any TB tournaments that play regulation games. Maybe PGF, but don't know if they host around here.

There have never been regulation games in travel ball... but this "every tournament is a showcase" could be a problem. My DD is graduating from college this spring so it has been a few years since we played travelball. It would be sad to know that they have changed all tournaments to showcase style, that would be a waste and would make no point at all.
