    Wingate

Well I guess i can kick off 2012. My son is Jordan Newsome a freshman lefty pitching for Wingate. He had his first start yesterday and after a shaky first inning settled down a little and went four innings. Thankfully Wingate's bats were blazing yesterday and he went out with a lead. I am not sure if the first start was more nerve racking for him, his mother or myself!!!!! Lots of butterflies but also lots of proud moments watching my kid pitch in college.

Chris Perry started the season for MU by pitching the first 6 innings against Roanoke College, allowing 0 runs, no hits, no walks, and 8 Ks. Only base runners for RC in those innings was a "called" third strike which got past the catcher, and a "hit by pitch". The HBP was kind of funny in that the batter hit routine grounder to SS, which was fielded cleanly and an easy throw out at first. However the first base ump, instead of signaling out, instead shouted "I had time". Apparently before the pitch, he was "chatting" with the RC first base coach, didn't let anyone else know that he was otherwise busy, wasn't watching the play, and just assumed that both teams and home plate ump would check with him before starting the play. MU coach Austin inquired if he could "decline the time out ?", which added some humor to the incident.

But I could see that ticked off my son, and after the hitter went back to bat, the next pitch was 2 feet outside, and the one after that was 2 feet inside, squarely between the batter's 2 and 6 on the back of his uniform. I don't believe it was intentional, but after that, and a throw over to first to make the batter get his uniform dirty, he settled down, and got back into pitching.

After having to sit out a season for medical reasons, the smile has returned to my son's face!!

After having a decent freshman year Max sat out last year but has returned behind the dish this year. At the plate he got off to a slow start in his first game but has since hit the ball well and thrown out baserunners. When we talk to him after games you can tell how much he misssed the game and the away game road trips and it just bothered the crap out of him as he had never missed a game due to injuries.

We are hoping the best for him and the rest of his fellow Braves this season as that attempt to build on their accomplishment of last year when for the first time they won their conference tournament and made the NCAA tournament.

This is great stuff. Really...this is my favorite thread. There are not many things that make me happier then to read the accomplishments of TBRs' sons.

I wish for Jordan, Chris and Max to have stellar seasons and I expect that you will keep us informed...attaboy guys!!! Keep them coming!

What a night at Wingate! Not only did the Bulldogs come from behind to defeat #1 Mount Olive 6-5, but our son, Olen Little, got his first win of his collegiate career. Had a huge smile on his face after the game. He faced 7 Trojan batters, striking out 4 and giving up only 1 hit in two innings of relief. We are very proud of him:)

Olen works as hard as anyone. He's a gamer and I know it was well deserved, I'm sure there will be many more W's in his future.

My son was at that game and he said Olen was "throwin' it." That's high praise coming from him. I rarely hear him give that kind of praise.

Congrats to Olen and the Bulldogs. I expect great things from both.

    Hello 2012

I want to give a shout out to my son's college team, Walter's State in Morristown, TN. They started their season last weekend in SC against USC Salkehatchie. They swept them 2-0, 5-0, and 12-2.
My son pitched the third game and gave 3 hits, one was a HR. :(
This weekend we traveled to Marianna, Fl to play in the Chipola Classic. It consisted of 3 nationally ranked teams, #2 Chipola, #8 Walters State and #12 San Jac. They swept this tournament series by defeating both teams twice.
My son pitched the second game against #2 Chipola, seven innings, gave up 3 hits, 4 k's, one earned run. (another HR) :(
    Walters after two weekends 7-0!!
    Congratulations guys!!
