    Porter Ridge 4....Hough 2

    Porter Ridge 400 000 0...4
    Hough........ 002 000 0...2

    WP Drew Moore
    LP Spencer Venator

Hough dug themselves a deep hole early, giving up four runs in the first, three unearned. As was the case against Providence the night before, Hough was victimized by untimely errors...committing two up the middle in the first inning that allowed Porter Ridge to plate enough runs to hold off the Huskies the rest of the way. Venator pitched better than the results showed and Jeffrey Williamson came in relief and kept the Pirates off the board, but the Huskies could not muster any more run-scoring opportunities. Hough had a nice rally in the bottom of the third that ended oddly. With the bases loaded and two runs already in, Greyson Oxedine lifted a sac fly to deep left to easily score the third run of the inning. However the runner attempting to advance from second was thrown out approaching third and the plate umpire ruled that the runner had not crossed the plate before the tag out at third. Instead of 4-3 with runners on 1st and 2nd base, it was inning over and the score held at 4-2.

    South Meck 5 Weddington 4

    Wild game!

Weddington scored 3 in the first. SM got two in the third, one in the fourth to tie.

Then SM took the lead 4 3 in b6. Weddington answered with one in T7 and then SM scored with a walkoff single by Harris Yett in the bottom of the seventh!

    More later.....

    More

I was very impressed with Shellhorn. He went three for three and looks strong and balanced at the plate. He also plays a terrific 1B. I saw him pitch against AK the other day. A live arm and a sharp breaking yakker. This kid is a very good ballplayer.

Oliver got the win pitching the seventh. His second win this week. Koch had two doubles for SM, the second one tied the game and gave his team new life.

There were dozens of key plays as there always are in a game like this. There was a 9-2 fielders choice and a failed suicide squeeze. Weddington leadoff Calabretta got hit right in the middle of the back with a high eighties fb to start the game.......his next time up, you guessed it he got drilled in the exact same spot. He took both like a man and hustled to first but you gotta hate seeing that. Hopefully he's not too sore today.

If you haven't had enough excitement from this matchup wait until tuesday when the two teams play again this time at Weddington.

    Catholic-Providence Day

Catholic jumped out to an early 5-0 lead - which proved to be enough as the Cougars won for the first time this year 11-3, after a tough opening week schedule. Jordan Accetta was impressive on the mound for Catholic, earning a quality win. Michael Crowley lead the Cougars at the plate with 2 hits. Eddie Hull, Chris Clare, and point guard/QB Jack Brodowicz all added clutch hits as well.
It's nice to see MEGA 7 member, Olympic get a big win vs. SW4A member Butler yesterday.
Keep an eye on Harris Yett for South Meck. The sophomore who had the game-winning hit vs. Weddington yesterday is gonna be a special player!
