Seven games featuring SW4A teams in action today, including:

Cox Mill at South Meck in the Miracle League Charity Game (Free Admission!)
Providence traveling to 3A power East Rowan
A snarling mad Hough after dropping three close games to start the season at Ardrey Kell
Myers Park at Olympic where SW4A brother Butler was upended on Friday.
North Meck at East Meck as both teams look for their first win
Vance at Independence as the Patriots see their second I-Meck foe of the week.
And Rocky River at Parkwood which will be the feature game on www.southwestern4abaseball.com/live.html

You can also follow the action @SW4ABaseball on twitter.

    SANDERSON MOVES TO 3-1

    Sanderson 2 Athens Drive 1

Sophomore Daniel Delaney pitches 5 solid innings for the win before giving way to Tom Preister for the save. Once again the Spartan defense was strong. Junior, Tyler Hardee lead the way on offense going 2-3. Tim Smiley had a nice double in the 2 run 3rd inning for Sanderson. Eric Berger went 3-3 for Athens. The Spartans need to find their bats before the start of the CAP 8 season begins.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Charlotte Observer wanted to cover this game. The score speaks for itself.

    I admire them

Myers Park had similiar results(but even more lopsided). The Garinger team played hard, executed some plays well, kept their heads up and shook hands with smiles on their faces at the end of the game. Another good day of baseball.

The Observer will never really do HS baseball well because they don't understand it or care about it. They operate with a different agenda. They understand motorsports, college basketball, the Panthers, and Tobacco Road. They cover the Bobcats, but only out of obligation it seems. Tom Sorensen and Scott Fowler are never heard from regarding baseball...it is left to the underlings. Langston Wertz prefers computer games and the athletic programs of the more challenged schools. I think the other writers are freelancers or "correspondents" ....maybe code for freelancers. I remember when one of the freelancers showed up for a game and took some pictures and then described runs as points in his article the next day. When the Observer is in the mood to do some real HS baseball in the Charlotte area it seems their GPS can only find Ardrey Kell or Providence high schools....great programs and great coaches for sure, but their stories are already well told and it is redundant to read a version of the same story told over and over.

Nice story about South Meck this morning...I'm sure there are other good stories at Charlotte Catholic, Lake Norman, Fort Mill, Hough, Country Day, JM Robinson, Northwest Cabarrus and many others....let's see if their GPS can direct them to some other HS baseball hot spots.

I know I'll take some heat for this, but honestly Langston tries to do a great job. He always takes a break after basketball then comes back strong for spring sports. Baseball is having to compete against track and field, lacrosse and s***er for attention. While LW will write a game summary every now and then, those stories are generally done by correspondents.

If you really want a story by Langston about your school, then give him something that is of 'human interest." Something that all readers want to read. I will promise you this, when he gets his feet back on the ground from vacation and rest, he will join us on TBR and you can ask him anything. The problem, sometimes, is our members won't furnish him any information. We tell him, "write baseball stories." He says, "Okay"...but we don't send him any stories to write about.

If you know about a "special" player or family...or a barn burner game to attend and why it will be different than the norm; I bet he will attend.

I've gotten to know Langston pretty well over the last 8 years or so and he surprises me with his knowledge of baseball, in general, and the HS area, in particular. Plus, he is always calling the coaches he respects to get their perspective of the season.

Keep in mind he is a "one man army" in regards to HS Prep sports....and he gets inundated from supporters from all spring sports saying the same thing: "Why aren't you covering our sport?"
