The last time I checked TBR wasn't the official scorebook. So if a player comes in a pitches well to end the game for 2.1 innings instead of 3 and you want to call it a save, I personally don't have a problem with that. However, in the spirit of total transparency, I once referred to an Independence player as having been OUTSTANDING, but after looking up the definition, I have to admit it only qualifies as VERY GOOD!

    Sorry...

Love that. I once had what I thought was an outstanding post only to find out it really sucked.
Agree that tbr is not a scorebook so if that is the case lets try not to call out a long time poster who was trying to give some kids some credit. All I was doing was pointing out the possibility of the origional point being correct.

It is this kind of thinking that leads to those "bonafide" .685 batting averages and 0.65 ERAs....mistakenly applying proper scoring doesn't serve any purpose....most folks prefer something real, not fake.

To be honest, I don't care about stats. I know it's a baseball tradition, but it's not something that excites me (other than a power hitter) when I watch a game. What I do like to see are the players that rise to the occassion (Gamers... for no better description.)

I watched a game the other night and saw Mike Herbert (Providence) do this kind of thing--rise to the occassion--and earlier in the game saw Knight with Weddington do the same. For me, that's what is exciting; to see a player compete and win in a pressure situation

But speaking from a parent's perspective, your son's stats are important. It is a measuring tool of his performance despite the credibility issue of the stats. But believe me, the year after your son graduates, no one will care or remember (outside of you) what his stats were. They're fun to keep up with...just like a poll ranking of teams. However, what will always remain in one's memory are the times your son succeeded with the game on the line.

Post that link. I must have missed it. I can't recall ever reading a bad post from you:bowdown2:

It's people like baseballx3 and many others that keep TBR relevant.
