    AK 9 East Meck 0

East Meck and Butler both shutout. It doesn't matter if you play AK and Providence early in the schedule or last. You're still going to see how you match up. Want to see a big game?????

Thursday night Providence at Ardrey Kell for the conference lead. Thornton vs. Buttrey.

After Thursday night the first half of the SW4A conference schedule will be completed. Everybody will have played everybody once. Then you can check the standings.

Olympic had some really good teams in the mid 90's to early 2000. Don.t hold me to this but I think they went pretty deep in the playoffs 98-01. They had some horses.....Jerry Dunn, Bobby Rhodes, Doug Myers. I would be interested to hear how they started throughout those years. Anyways.....Olympics coach has done and outstanding job over there with the field and managing players.

Meeting people thru this forum as well as catching up with people you haven't seen in a while (long after your own son has graduated) is what continues to make HS baseball great. REALLY looking forward to one day sampling the SheCrabSoup we discussed. While Butler didn't get the win, they hung in against a loaded Panther squad. A few breaks here and there and this game is a one run ball game. I was very impressed with the performances of the guys on the bump last night. IMO Eisenbath deserved a better result (not sure of some of the pitches that were called from the bench) while Herbert was impressive as well. Buttrey???? ..... what can you say about this kid but ....... DAM!

Doug Myers is one of the most dangerous hitters this city has ever produced---sheer country power--Don't forget about Thurston, too. Great pitcher and even better hitter...he was dominating!

The whooping they put on Providence in the playoffs opened everyone's eyes that year. Coach Bob Rhodes was the last of the old school coaches in Charlotte. Outstanding coach and an even better man. If I recall correctly, they started out 11-1 at that time.

But the year they had Randy Rhino--early '70's-- might have been THE year. I can't recall, but they may have played or won the State Championship: Mincmi would know for sure.

There's a reason these two teams get so much attention. If the weather is good, the crowd will be huge filled with college and pro scouts. The only other place that will be even more lively is when they play at Providence. It's a must watch game.

These are great games to attend for many reasons, especially if it is a close game and the managerial moves come into play. I enjoy the game at Providence 10x over the game when played at AK.....many interesting sight lines at Providence and the real ballpark feel is nice. AK will be groomed and so forth, but it is still a cookie cutter CMS concrete & aluminum bleacher feeling place from a fan's perspective....reminds me of being at Hopewell.
