My 12U daugther was playing in Huntersville last weekend in the Championship game. I walked up to the State Director and he said are you winning?? I said Yes and "He said we were hoping you would lose!!!" Haha I couldn't believe he would say that. Said if we kept winning we wouldn't play NSA anymore... He caught me off guard or I would have cussed that "fat a#$ out". He said we should play 14U and I said WE are ALL 12U and Don't Have too play 14U... Just wondering what everybody else would do if he said that to you?? I said something back to him but I'm not going to print it. LOL

I think you just started something. But hopefully they will let this thread run its course.

I think the director's thoughts are pretty typical. If there's a really good team they need to move on. Instead of trying to attract other really good teams to try to beat them they want you to go away.

Some will call you trophy hunters. They want you to go play in older brackets.

I believe the thinking is that if you keep winning teams will stop coming to the tournaments. That's totally bassackwards thinking. If a team gets a reputation for beating everyone else, the better teams will want to play them to see who is the better team. It can domino from there.

But with the current "shame on you, trophy hunter" attitude we'll just stay where we are—stagnant, at a below average level..

Good for you and your team if you're dominating at your level. Dare better teams to enter and try to beat you. Keep up the good work until you age up; then try to dominate at that level.

He's got it upside down. He should be telling the bottom teams to step it up or be replaced by better teams.

    Bring it on!

I'm just telling the TRUTH!!!!!! They can take those stupid trophies and keep them!!! We could care less about them. The point is Why play in their tourneys again when they want you to lose.... Hey, they can't help they are pretty good.. That was out of line!! No worries we are playing ASA and Triple Crown from here on out!!

Congrats! are you a first or second year 12U? There is nothing wrong with dominating your age bracket. Way back when my DD was at that age level we would play "up" in the next age bracket thru the Fall season. We took our lumps but became a stronger team. The next Spring we would come back down and chase an ASA state and ASA Nationals bid.We did that every year and by the time they were 16U we were playing all 18U tournaments and showcases except for States and Nationals. This got the girls 4 years of showcase ball in college coaches eyes. That was the way we did it and every girl on our team got offers from college coaches, after all that is the "grand prize" isn't it? One word of warning, when they turn 14 or16 be ready to backfill, that seems to be the age when licenses and boys take the place of softball for alot of girls.Congrats and good luck!

Bugsdad- we are a 2nd year 12U. We have played up in the 14U and held our own. This isn't a play "up" or dominate your age group thing.... This is a director telling me "We hope you lose thing." I think that is sorry on his part. Also, I know what you mean when they turn 14 and 16 I have a older daughter playing at USC UPSTATE so Ive been down that road. :lolly:

Probably not. It wasn't even his tournament.
