West Forsyth beats Reynolds 9-5 behind a sold pitching performance by Kenneth Pope. Offensively West was led by Gavin Culler and Kyle Humphrey each with 3 hits.

    Butler 10 Rocky River 0 (5 inn)

Butler extends win streak to 6 games with win over Rocky River. Chase Gehringer leads off the game with a homer and the Bulldogs never looked back. Dalton Eisenbath gets his third win of the season with a CG 4 hitter.
I believe he had 5k's and no walks and made 2 nice defensive plays on the mound. The Bulldogs continue to hit up and down the line up. Troy Neil is really stepping up his game at the plate and on second. Ben Garnett takes the loss for the Ravens. Butler hosts AK on Tuesday.

What a game tonight at Cary HS.

    Middle Creek - 5
    Cary - 3

Cary steals home with 2 strikes and 2 outs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 6th. Tack one more on to make it 3-1. Top 7, Middle Creek's first two batters strike out. Down 2 with #9 batter up, Middle Creek's Diego Guerrero (freshman) line drives a single to bring up the top of the order. Middle Creek takes 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th and comes out with the 5-3 W on the road. As a former Cary player/coach, I was proud of the way Cary fought and scrapped. Tony Sanchez (Cary, 2012) pitched a gutsy complete game for the Imps.

    GH keeps pace in Tri-9

GH-Apex matches drama of MC-Cary as GH keeps pace with MC in the Tri-9 with a 2-1 win at home over Apex, splitting the series with Apex this year. The first game went 10 innings, this one was done in regulation but just as exciting. Senior Tyler Jones hits a double in the right-center gap for GH in the home 4th, scoring Senior Will Gilbert who had doubled previously, putting the final run for either team on the board . Senior Keith Walsh comes in for a dramatic save leaving runners stranded at 3rd and 2nd in the top of the 7th. Junior Daniel Weygandt gets the win to go 6-1 on the year, pitching 6 innings (and I think the 1 run given up was unearned). I believe FV also wins dramatically in the 7th tonight over PC. If you want to watch some good, exciting baseball, come visit a Tri-9 game the next few weeks. It will remind you of all the things we love about the game.

South Granville 5, FB Christian (Brandon, FL) 4

South Granville defeats NACA power First Baptist Christian from Brandon, FL 5-4. Zack Cooper was the winning pitcher with 13 Ks in 6 2/3 innings. Matt Fuhr picked up the save. David Paff hit a monster shot over the center field fence in the 5th to give SG a 5-0 lead. Brandon scraps back to within 1. The game ends when the SG shortstop grabs an apparent base hit up the middle by Brandon and throws to second for the force out.

    Providence Won Zero to Fifteen

When you write it out like that it doesn't look so bad. Well here goes on one of my unconventional writeups.

Providence looked like the old Mud City Manglers from the Bugs Bunny cartoon. The only difference is that SM didn't have Bugs to come in and save the day. SM only made 1 error and didn't have a ton of walks or anything like that. The Manglers (uh I mean Providence) went off. And to top it off when they weren't driving singles and doubles they would hit a quail to right field that scored two more! They led zero to three and then it hit the fan. They scored 9 in the fourth. SM's #2, #3, #4 and #5 all got to pitch in that inning.

You knew it was going to be bad when (in the first inning somebody hit a shot up the middle and it hit the bag and almost decapitated SM's freshman second baseman. Providence did learn a lesson that I've been preaching all year. SM is the biggest park in the league. I don't care that MP is 409 to CF. SM is only 370 but you can't hit it out in CF. Michael Herbert hit two bombs to CF. Neither one went out. Buttrey hit a Providence home run to Left Center that was easily caught. Then finally in the 9 run fourth inning MacLatchie came up and hit one about 425 ft to left field. Needless to say even SM's field couldn't hold it and ladies and gentlemen we had our very first HR of the season at SM. Then later on another one of the Mud City Manglers (Herbert) hit one in the same general direction for the 2nd HR of the season. When I told the Providence parents that those were the first two they couldn't believe it.

Anyway, without Mauldin SM's pitching is uh, uh, not as good? SM got two hits. Koch hit a ground rule double for SM. Providence is ranked #1 in the mid-atlantic by Perfect Game for a reason. And I will say it here again. If they don't run the table they will have lost the best opportunity a high school coach could ever have.

You have to take your hats off to Providence. It was a drubbing. SM now has 5 league games left to hang on to its usual 3rd place finish in the SW4A which is actually a very nice accomplishment given the fact that they play in a league with two of the top teams in NC.

If anybody is still actually reading this let me say it right here. I absolutely can't figure out why Michael Herbert is still uncommitted. He's 14-0 on the mound at Providence for his career. He throws strikes and has pretty good velo. He's 6'3" and hasn't even filled out yet. I hope it all turns out great for him. His Dad is a nice guy too.

After the ransacking of SM's ego it was time for an adult beverage.

    The End.

    AK 8 Indy 5

Independence tried to make it at least interesting in the end but ultimately lost 8-5. Second strait time Indy has faced Stone (not that facing Thornton would have been better), and after being No-Hit the last time, at least he gave us a chance this time!

    WP - Stone
    LP - Tiderman

    Leading Hitters:
    AK- Trent Thorton 3-5, J French 3-5
    Indy- Salisbury 4-4, 2 2b, 3b, Caleb Matos 2-4
