    No dying quails or flairs....

All of his hits were SMOKED!!...not one flair in the bunch...To add to it, he hit 3 of those from the right side and 1 from the left. Kid's a ballplayer...and NO...I'm not his dad or the parent of a teammate. Just enjoyed watching him play.

I will tell you why Herbert isn't signed by a D1 program..... Because the scouts are fascinated with velo.... Herbert’s been kicking it for two years, i.e., undefeated. Continues to pitch, not throw well... He gets himself out of jams game after game by shear will. He's 6'5 200lbs, not 6'3 and worked hard in the weight room in the off season. His velo is the issue, 80-84 and it’s due to his mechanics not inability to throw gas (which can be corrected by a good pitching coach) at the next level. He can easily throw low 90s with some work. So to all you D1 recruiting dummies who throw those submariners out game after game at 78-82 mph and can't find pitching, well, you can just kick yourself for missing this one

We can totally relate on say, a D2 level. We even play another position and can hit somewhat -- thus my new profile pic...

If I was a college coach taking over a program and I could have any player in Charlotte, I would start with Salisbury first. For those that remember Tyler Hanover (LSU star), Nick is a mirror image to the way Tyler plays. (Pretty impressive considering Andy Partin said Tyler is the best player/leader he has ever had on his Dirtbags.)

I've been watching Nick since his freshman season. The first time I saw him was at a CBC clinic that featured many top talented juniors and seniors (he was a freshman.) Jeff Schaefer said then that Nick was the best defensive player of the group---pretty impressive observation.

    Weddington 6-1 over West Stanly

Nate Borrelli pitches a complete game and gets the win over West Stanly. Borelli held WS to 2 hits, with 5k's, and 1 unearned run.

The Weddington bats provided the cushion Borelli needed to throw a pretty relaxed game. Weddington had 8 hits, with 3k's. Andrew Knight got started early with a single and scoring Calabretta from 2nd. Jeremy Schellhorn hit a 3 run Home Run in the 4th. Bostic and Simpson also had 1 RBI each.

    Herbert's really good Pitcher

Herbert is one of the better pitcher's I've seen in Charlotte. The young man went to AK and pitched a complete game 7 IP, 2H, 1BB, 7SO, 65% strikes, 101 pitches. I was there. His infield made a few errors. Had good composure throughout. Herbert is not signed? Are you kidding me?

So i looked at Perfect Game and he's listed at 6'4" 170. 84mph. The weight is misleading. No video upload. He's listed as "Mike", not Michael. And 180 on SCPanthers's site, and again "Michael".

    On the velo comment...
-First, 84mph FB with a 6'5" frame, command, quality pitches, composure, experience, looks much more attractive than other pitchers that may throw 88mph velo and have a recoil issue.
-Second, weight room is nice, but "country strong", functional strength, core stability, dynamic balance is more productive for velo. Build a bigger motor. Especially if you already have the frame. Working fast twitch fibers...plyos, agility, medballs, heavy ropes, etc. drills, everything I could to get arms and legs moving faster, faster, faster, and in sync.
-Third, pitching coach can increase efficiency. (as you said).

Everyone has a different path. Things happen for a reason. Keep working hard and stay healthy. Someone will notice.

Southeastern Baseball Classic (Championship)- Hartsville, SC

    Cuthbertson - 11
    Paul VI Catholic - 1 (5 innings)

It's been awhile, but the bats came alive for the Cavaliers on Saturday night in Hartsville, SC. The Cavs had 10 hits with 3 going for extra bases. Cameron Tekker was high going 3 - 4, while Andrew Hendel helped his cause with 4 RBI's and a triple. Austin Pierce and John Mangum both had doubles.

    WP - CG - Andrew Hendel (9K's, 0 BB, 3H's, 1 ER)

    Tournament MVP - Andrew Hendel

Cav players on the All-Tournament Team - Andrew Hendel, John Mangum, Brian Donovan, and Cameron Tekker.

Once again, if you have a chance to play in this special event, please take the opportunity. It's really well run and after speaking to Jimmy White (Tournament Director) last night he said, "He wanted to create something special for the boys. In 28 years of coaching he really can't remember a tournament that his boys might remember and he wanted to change that in Hartsville." In fact, the games are played at Jimmy White Park.

Here's an excerpt from the local paper before the event began giving you some more insight.

In its 16th year, the SBC is far more than an ordinary high school baseball tournament. Families from Hartsville serve as hosts to teams, assisting players and coaches in whatever way possible. Churches within the community will serve breakfast for the players each day. Countless volunteers will help in coordinating travel, ensuring that the stadium remains clean and numerous other duties.
Jimmy White, longtime Hartsville High School baseball coach, serves as director of the Southeastern Baseball Classic.
