Had two plays happen last night. Crazy stuff!
#1 Runner on second with lead off double. Catcher mishanldes ball and runner advances to third. Ball arrives at time runner slides into third. Defender pushes runners feet off bag (after she makes it in safe) with ball in glove. What's the call?

#2 Bases loaded. Runner on second. Ball mishandled behind third base. Runner from second rounds third and gets in a rundown. After many throws back and forth, runner dives back into third. Defender, blocking bag, receives ball as runner going in hands first. Defender drops ball and lands on runner not allowing her to move. Defender then picks up ball and applies tag. What's the call?

Runner safe, you cant push a offensive player off base.

Obstruction, you cant hold a runner.

Let me guess, you were on offense??

    Yep

We were on offense, down two, making a comeback in the top of the 7th.
Runner called out at third would have scored easily and I would have one less out to work with.
Ump said he deemed the push off as a "continuation" of the play.

    my opinion...

#1 As long as the runner was clearly pushed off the bag, she should be safe.
#2 This one is a little more difficult to me because I would have to take the timing of it into play. Was the fielder in already in possession of the ball when they moved into the runners path and dropped it (if so, nothing and the runner is out) or was the fielder not in possession of the ball prior to contact (obstruction and runner safe)?

Once the ump "admits" that the hand was pushed away, then you have grounds for appeal. Unfortunately, at a night time school game it is hard to find someone to appeal to on a rule interpretation.

Both players are safe...pretty easy call if the ump was in position to see it.

This is a had to be there call.

If the runner was under control and not
off balance then she should be ruled safe.

If the runner was off balance and not under control then she should be ruled out.

If the runne slid and her leg popped off with the tag and the defender did not use excessiveforce with the tag then she should be out.

This is a little more cut and dry then Sit. #1. The fielder is not protected when she mishandles a thrown ball so if she impedes the runner without the ball she is guilty of obstruction and the runner should be protected to the bag.

    Reversed call on #1

The ump on scenario #1 called safe, then out and gave me the explanation that is was continuation of the play . Runner was on her back after sliding in, feet on bag. Hard tag applied that pushed runners feet off bag.
    Safe in my opinion.
(If we can do that, then I guess we can know runners into center field too and get an out as long as we tag them)

Scenario #2 was pretty cut an dried to me but neither umpire said they saw ball on the ground however everyone else in the park saw it.
Calls were so bad, home coach apologized for the officiating. Fans apologizing too. Comment I heard was: Wow!

Tough luck. It sounds like you were on the bad end of 2 kicked calls. PM me which school you were playing.
