Catholic/Olympic

Charlotte Catholic dominated Olympic tonight to win the MEGA 7 Conference Championship by a score of 8-0. The Cougars avenged the previous meeting between these 2 teams when Olympic won 14-2. Jacob Bonen-Clark was spectacular for Catholic -- going the distance and allowing only 3 Trojan hits. Eddie Hull went 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's, and Tyler Jensen was 2-4 with a triple and 4 RBI's for the Cougars. The tough schedule that Catholic has played this year should bode well for the Cougars as they enter the start of the 3A playoffs next Friday. Catawba signee Tyler Byrnes took the loss for Olympic. Charlotte Catholic will travel to Charlotte Christian on Monday for the final regular season game of the year -- gametime is 7:00 pm.

 

Congrats to Catholic for winning the MEGA 7 but it is still one of the weaker conferences around. Catholic has had their share of baseball talent in Jensen(Army) D Stew(Flagler) and Colin Manning(Holy Cross) among others like eddie hull going to Wingate next year but the talent around them is not what they would see in the SW4A, SCP, etc. Catholic has losses to Olympic, AK, East Meck, North Meck, Indy, and Charlotte Christian twice. I would like them to have more of a signature out of conference wins to consider them a top team instead of the normal garinger, west meck, harding, philip O berry...
