Higgy? Superstitious?...lmao......releasing stats is just the beginning of his many...err...idiosyncracies; you can't help but love him. By the way, his field looks awesome. I took a trip out there the other day and he has added these dungeon walls (with retractible protruding spikes) down the field line: To say it's intimidating is a gross understatement.

However, his field is awesome. LW, one of the few things you may not know is how hard the area coaches compete against each other for the right to be called "best HS field." They work extraordinary hours to attain that feat.

Oh yeah I know about the field thing. Guess Bags started that. But it's spreading particularly throughout the SW4A.

I should have known you would be all over it. By the way, thanks for coming by. I mentioned in another thread that you tend to take a break after football and basketball, then hard charge it for the spring.

Are you still a "one man army?"..or do you finally have some help?

Braves, to quote the old De La Soul song, it's "Me, myself and I"

    We'll soldier through, as always.

To the person talking about us covering the same teams, aren't we spreading it out? I've been trying to. I know it's the AK-Prov thing, but even last year we did a lot of MCreek and Olympic and Catholic. I think what happens is p eople pay more attention as playoffs get going and many years the same teams are going deep and that's when coverage naturally ramps up, too.

With the season reaching its conclusion, I wanted to congratulate the Charlotte Observer on the job that they did in covering HS baseball this season. For the first time in MANY years, IMO they gave us more coverage than ever before. While the main stores were about PHS & AK (which I understand) the coverage was great. My hope is that they continue this next season and try to include the lesser known schools in the future. Just remember, not all your readers go to Providence and AK. Thanks for your efforts!

I agree with Philly....the coverage has been noticeably better. It is still heavy on Providence and Ardrey Kell...and I understand Langston knows those coaches well so that makes some sense.

Mr. Wertz, if you really want a Pulitzer.....

I still believe that top to bottom, the SW4A is the strongest conference in the state. But to be swept in the first round?? f you really want a journalism award, research and write about how such an improbable event could have happened. Done with the utmost of sensitivity, everybody can be a winner.
Interview all ten coaches, some players, parents and fans. Get coaches to talk about their strategies like pitching rotations, game preparations, etc.
Take those of us who did not attend any of the five games to the field to understand games' flows and decisions during the games.
This is probably not going o happen, so how about some TBR folks who did see a game sharing with the rest of us what went on.
Come on, somebody; is this not the biggest story in HS baseball this year?
