Catholic/Weddington

The biggest play, IMO, in last night's game was a pickoff of Catholic catcher, Michael Crowley at first base in the 2nd inning. With a man on 2nd, Chase Arnold sent the next pitch over the CF's head to score the Cougars only run. However, if Crowley had not been picked off, he likely would have scored also.
Hats off to Weddington, however. An excellent team with an excellent pitching staff. Collins and Bostic were able to shut down the meat of the Catholic order -- Hull, Clare, and Jensen -- while only allowing 3 hits. As you stated earlier, BaseballX3, Jordan Accetta was solid for Catholic as well.
There is such a small margin for error when you get 2 good teams squaring off on a big stage. Good luck to Weddington the rest of the way.

 

that was a huge play that quite potentially shifted momentum. Between that one and the Hit and run followed by the steal of home on a very close play don't know which one I would pick.

I think most of the rest of the game was played very solidly on both sides. Like I said before, especially by Clare at SS.

 

Double steal from 1st and 3rd. CC executed the read and cut play perfectly at SS the throw was just a pinch late an slightly, very slightly up the 1st base line allowing Honeycutt to just get his hand in under the tag

I drove down to Mallard Creek High School from Cornelius last night for the second round game between conference rivals mallard Creek and Lake Norman. I must say the atmosphere there was exciting. Both teams showed the utmost respect for their opponents. Coaches as well. Even seemed like some of the fans got on. Unfortunately lightening won out after 2 innings with the mavericks ahead 4-0. Game will be resumed tonight.
As I understand it both teams had used up their #1 starter last Friday. Mallard Creek jumped ahead early with some walks and a couple of timely hits. Kirk Morgan pitched for MC shutting down LN with timely strikeouts despite some shoddy support from his infield.
See you all again tonight. Looks like the winner will travel to Asheville on Friday.

Carson at Northwest baseball game is cancelled for tonight. Will be played tomorrow at 630 but the site is yet to be determined, stay tuned.

 

Hickory Ridge wins 14 to 4 over Mt. Pleasant. Moves on to play South Rowan Friday at Hickory Ridge, I think.
