    Some things never change.....

The uglies are out again! And I thought the guys on the other side over here were hostile.

Wish I could say I miss the personal attacks back there. At least I know who the enemy is over here.

    Be nice,

    Regards,

    BBL

I was going to let it ride since i don't have a dog in this fight anymore, but it bothered me all last week. I know the schools on the south side of charlotte get a lot of write up, which they richly deserves and has earned with some excellant baseball in the last ten years. I think we all know that if Kell and Providence was playing for the right to go to the semi's the Observer would have a front page story and huge write -ups on the coaches and players. The Mallard Creek and Hough match-up barely got mentioned and no write-ups on any of the players. There was more soccer and Private school sports mentioned than this game. Hopefully the Observer will realize that Hough is playing for the 4A State Championship this week. For the people who know me " Damn it hurt saying that".

To me, it has been rather stunning the total lack of acknowledgement by the Observer of Weddington being in the State Championship. They have had quite a run and yet, NOTHING. But PLENTY of girls soccer coverage.

Also, nothing about Porter Ridge's softball team qualifying for the state championship game.

I guess Union County is too far from Charlotte.

Thanks for the love. I love the first out at 3B comment. I think we've always done Ok by baseball but I tried to ramp it up this year and cover different teams, which we did. I'm amazed at all the Providence/Ardrey Kell/Observer talk that still goes on here. We covered the north end much more this year than the south. Oh well.

Weddington is having a great run in the playoffs and we'll try to get over to them this week. Weddington is also in Union County. Our first responsibility has to be with local schools. Hough is in Meck. They don't get covered by Enquirer Journal or Gaston Gazette. Gotta take care of home first. I have some thoughts about schools that nearly touch Meck County, however.

Hear this all the time. Providence gets investigated and nothing comes up. You all do realize however, that any student from anywhere in the county can attend any school and play sports, so long as he gets an official transfer into the school (it cannot be full).

    Here's how it works.

You can only do this your 9th grade year, but the first place you attend on Day 1 is established as your sports school. Go anywhere else and it's 365 day sitout unless your home school.

    Example:

Little Johnny lives in South Meck district but wants to play at East. So long as he gets approved for transfer into East (myriad reasons possible), he can go there THE FIRST DAY OF HIS NINTH GRADE YEAR and establish East as his home school.

Say Little Johnny is unhappy b/c he's a bench rider or wants to play for Higgy, since y'all think I like him so much, well, he has to out 365. But if he wants to go back home to South Meck, he's good.
