Playing 2 out of 3 playoff still doesn't "fix it."
What about regular season games? A team can ride a "stud" to the playoffs and leave a "better team" out of the playoffs all-together.
The split conferences will still get two in automatically, sometimes (as we've seen) carrying below .500 records.

You will never fix it all.
And by the way, what's wrong with having to make decisions as to who pitches in RD1 - your #1 or #2 or whomever? Make the decision. Live with it.

All that seemingly critically said, I am for the 2 out of 3 format in every round of the playoff - although I don't think we necesarrily have to reduce the number of teams in the playoffs. I know, it sounds crazy, but we can have all three-game weeks in the regular season. Don't be scared. All 2 out of 3 in conference season play as well, with all 3 game series in the same weeks.

    My :two-cents:...

I am not a big fan of the current playoff format but I must say I have not seen so many people whine about a topic in awhile. (is it sour grapes)

The only format that crowns a true champion where the best team wins is a series or round robin pool play. However everyone on here understands the appeal of a bracket and tournament. The excitment of a one a done and the run by a cinderally is what makes March madness so popular.

The only way you can add series is to subtract teams or extend the tourney which in all likelihood is not going to happen.

I don't think the current system is that bad. If a team thinks they have the depth required to win in a 2 out of 3 system all the way through, then they certainly should have the depth to win each game in a 1 and done format.

If deep teams are concerned that the one and done format allows for a "fluke team" to win it all, I don't agree with that because a team still has to be exceptional to win 8-10 games straight, while facing very tough competition along the way. And that is no fluke.

The reason they play those 1st round games is to see who moves on to the 2nd round. The format is the same for everybody. No matter how good you're suppose to be, and no matter what your seeding is, you still have to play those games. You know, lower seeds do sometimes win against higher seeds, and believe it or not, what we all believe to be the best team sometimes does actually win the title. For example, C.B. Aycock, back in 2007 was the favorite to win the 3A State Title, and did end up winning it, but not before having some close calls along the way. This year's Aycock team was a 4th seed in their conference, lost in the 1st round of their conference tourney, but here they are this week getting ready to play for another state title. The format is the format. The reason a team lost is usually found somewhere in the boxscore.

    Not flawed

For me, it's the same as the rec league tournament when your kids are young....Win the game you are in. If you don't win today, your next game is next season and your best pitcher should be well rested after the 9 month wait. In the 2-3 play off system, I'd still throw my best guy to win game one. You never know what will happen.

Too many teams...no sub .500 teams, and in split conferences, no automatic bids (ex. 1A/2A just cuz there are 2 2A's they both should automatically get in playoffs) Believe in awarding at-large bids to teams with good records in tough conferences........

Do away with the useless conference tournaments and just schedule 2 non conference games. No pod system, but any change is better than what they have now. It's horrible.

I don't really like the below .500 teams getting in. I feel you should have a winning record in your class. Call me crazy, but I do like the 1 and done though. I think it adds excitement. Pro Hockey and Pro Basketball are the only sports collegiate or pro that I can think of with all playoff series.
