    Weddington wins game 1 5-3.

Weddington hit the ball hard all night long posting 9 hits. Collins with a triple, simpson, bostic, prillaman, and others with doubles.

If the field was HS size, 5 of the 9 hits would have been HR's.

Bostic pitched to into the 7th. He did not allow a hit until then, but had several walks. With Bases loaded and no outs, Pope comes in for relief. Allowing 1 hit that scored two, Pope gets the outs for the win.

Exciting 1st inning. Bostic walks the lead off hitter. Sacrifice bunt gets him to 2nd. Aycock steals 3rd. Batter hits ball to 1st. Schellhorn tags first and throws home to get the double play to keep the run from scoring.

    Game 2 today at 11:00

    Awesome!!!!

Couldn't have happened to a better bunch of young men. It's great that Weddington is bringing one back to Union County. We are all very proud of your accomplishment.

Wedding lucky to play in 3A?

Anybody care to state a guess how Weddington would have fared if they played in the bigs aka 4A?

I think they were the only team this year to beat both Providence and Ardrey Kell so I think that they would do pretty well if they were 4A....

Lucky to be in 3A? Give us back all of the players we lost to Cuthbertson and Marvin Ridge in the last 4 years and my guess is we would do just fine. If you remember we won the SW4A conference tournament in 2008 WITHOUT the players we lost to MR.

Totally irrelevant and ridiculous to even post in this thread.

You guys would have done fine if you had played at a 5A classification---too talented, too deep, but just as important, good chemistry.

Congrats to Coach Poole, players and their families. It's something you will never forget. Dang DC, you've been involved in 2 championships in two years!!! Do you care to allow somebody else win this summer and next school year :lmao:

    Some details

    Final Score 4-2
    WP Sean Collins complete game.

With the game tied 2-2 in the 5th Alex Bostic hit a BOMB. Off the top of the scoreboard at Mudcat stadium. I would put it at about 450+ It was an absolute tank and it put Weddington up 3-2. In the Top of the 7th with 2 outs Bostic comes up again. First pitch is a strike.....then they just intentially walk him. Andrew Knight gets walked and Jeremy Schellhorn gets RBI hit to make it 4-2.

Bottom of 7th Collins walks first guy and then goes 2-2 on next guy. Mound visit at which coach Poole tells him "walk this guy and you are done." Next pitch ball. Full count. Next pitch is lined to Schellhorn at first who steps on the bag for his second big DP of the series. Collins K's the last hitter in 4 pitches and a dog pile ensues!

Bostic is MVP of tournament. Chris Simpson big hits all weekend. Knight stellar behind the plate managing the pitchers, blocking the ball and throwing out potential bag stealers. Schellhorn with big time hits all weekend. Chase Prillaman doing what he always does and makes every play at second. Payden Honeycutt squaring up balls left and right. David Pope huge in the close yesterday. great group of boys and a great celebration to the end of a great season.
