Yes it is. He has pitched well these last few years, but because his velo was below average (always had good off speed pitches), he has gone unnoticed until this year. He actually was fortunate to play on good summer league teams and kept improving his velo each year. Here would his spring/summer/velo numbers.

    2008
    Green Hope High School
    Cary Legion
    Fastball (80-82)

    2009
    UNCW-College Club team
    Cary Legion
    Fastball (82-84)

    2010
    UNCW-Fall team, College Club team
    CVCL Fuguay Varina Twins
    Fastball (84-86)

    2011
    Methodist University
    SCBL Morganton Aggies
    Fastball (86-88)

    2012
    Methodist University
Valley League Rockbridge Rapids (never played because drafted)
    Fastball (88-90)

    congrats

EDP102, was Chris pitching and playing a little first for the Morganton Aggies last summer? I think i met you when watching JJ. Looking at his velo numbers, and reading the story, what a great example of a player continuing to improve. Sincere Congratulations.

Thanks, and yeah it's very possible we did meet, especially if it was early in the summer when Chris was doing some backup catching, and occassionally playing 1st or outfield for the Aggies. He was just happy to get an inning or two in the game somewhere. Coach Evan Wise also helped Chris improved his velocity that summer and so did this post from TBR in October.
I would not say that Chris got a 4 MPH bump, but he certainly got a 2 MPH bump, and just as important, he was able to sustain that increase for the entire game versus loosing some at the end. So he did get a 4 MPH bump if you look at his velo after 7 plus innings compared to what it was before in the 7th. Please note that I am not claiming anything about the program (whether it works for everyone, is safe, etc.), I am just saying that it did help Chris, and that's why I love TBR because you learn so much about what is going on and get information about programs which you wouldn't know about. They may not work for you, but maybe one will. Of course for every informative post there will be 10 from Braves which you will have to read through :blahblah1:

Just kidding, I really crack myself up sometimes :lmao:

    Two coaches to know

Evan is a young successful coach that HS players, coaches and parents should get to know. Cherryville native. Always studying, learning and applying new ideas. Teaching. Andro is another. USC-sumter and Lander pitchers come out healthy, stronger, faster and more knowledgable than when they arrived. Challenged for sure. But better. Sumter had 2 National Top tier Juco-d1 pitchers this year, 4 going to d1 universities (several to top SEC schools). Region-X finalists. Small budget, big results.

Ryan Dull (East Forsyth/UNCA) pitched well in his first 4 outings in the Arizona League (6.1IP 3H 1R 3BB 13K) and got the call up to the New York/Penn League yesterday to pitch for the Vermont Lake Monsters!!

Ryan has thrown 3.1 innings for the Lake Monsters and is 2-0 allowing 1 hit and striking out 4!
