I agree with you baseballnut...however I understand interviews are done. Just bringing back a couple for a more in depth second look. This will be done by this weekend or first of next week....

Not to worry, first game isn't until late Feb, hopefully they can sing kumbyya and flip a coin by ...maybe Christmas. I know sarcasim isn't helpful, but I / most people had hoped that by making a move to better the program would indeed do that. However by delaying and stringing this out they loose valuable recruiting and quits frankly a chance to change the personna around the program. While making the right hire is the ultimate goal, maybe they should decide if they want a top flight program or one at all. I am hopeful they get their man and that the school commits to the program / coach so that the stadium is not the first thing everyone comments on when talking uncg baseball, rather the quality of baseball played in it!!

I agree with you...this has been one long and drawn out search. The candidates are all over the map as far as backgrounds go. You would think that it wouldn't have taken this long to come up with the group that actually got interviews. But as I stated a week ago I think the main issue was coming up with and getting approval to increase the salaries for the staff. Gaski was only making $61,000 per year and I'm sure his Assistants were not making much either. It is my understanding that they have bumped the pay up to the $95k to $100k range for the HC and he will have $100k to split between his Assistants. All those figures will put UNCG on par with the top 3-4 programs in the SoCon as far as pay goes.

Regardless of who is named coach will probably have a very tough 2013 season. The main problem in waiting is not in the recruiting of current HS players but more so for next season. It is my understanding that Gaski and his staff basically stopped recruiting for the 2013 season. So there is something like 1-2 open scholarships left open that could have gone towards players for next year. Waiting so long to make a hire handcuffs the next coach because time is basically out on getting anyone for next season. So 2013 will be a struggle and under-manned group. Now the good thing is that extra money can be carried over and added to whatever else was going to come open for the 2013 and 2014 HS players. Meaning that you will probably see a huge 2013 class loaded with talent and the future will get much better quick.

Other than that...I still think that on paper Link Jarrett is the best prospect of the group and is the front runner to land the job. I truly believe it will be his to turn down.

Looking at who was interviewed and who was not it seems like majority of interviews were just done to be done. With Jarrett and maybe one other guy having a realistic shot at it. But that is just my opinion of course

I heard former FSU associate head coach Jamey Shouppe interviewed for the job. As a long time follower of Florida state baseball I think he would be great for the uncg job

Whoever gets the job will have to look to go the JC route to salvage any kind of recruiting class this year. That being said, there are some very good JC players out there...some playing VERY close to UNCG that the new coach can target if he is smart
