We are a little late to the party. Sorry about that.

Caldwell Co (W1) is taking on the Gaston Braves (E2) while Cherryville (W2) is taking on Shelby (W4) in the Semi-finals. It is scheduled to be best 3-out-of-5 but if weather dictates, that could change to 2-out-of-3.

Caldwell Co defeated Gaston in game one in a back and forth affair. Gaston scored the first two runs of the game when Caldwell tied and took a 4-2 lead going to the 8th inning. Gaston exploded in the Top of the 8th for six runs and looked well in control. Caldwell said "not so fast my friend" and exploded for 11 in the bottom of the eighth to take the 15-8 win.

Shelby and Cherryville renew a rivalry about 80 years going now. Cherryville takes game one. Heres a point of note, Shelby has been pushed to the limit in both their playoff series going five games in each. How much will fatigue play a role?

Nows where it gets tricky. If Caldwell can defeat the Gaston Braves, they will be in the Area IV Finals and it doesn't matter who it is against (Cherryville or Shelby) because the other team have their ticket punched for the State Tournament. And the Area IV Finals will be for seeding purposes and bragging rights only. If Gaston defeats Caldwell, only the winner of Area IV will join Caldwell Co. in the state tournament in Granite Falls.

All that being said, Luigi and SUMO, will you admit you are Caldwell County Post 29 fans in the Caldwell v Gaston series? :)

I doubt Sumo and luigiboy will commit just yet. They have that first win under their belt with Shelby....lol...I've already been talking up a CALDWELL-cherryville match-up with that bunch of bushwackers. Seriously...I would love to see this match-up...that would make a great season even better

I am an Area 111 guy so wasn't sure who The 1 seed out of the east was this year. Assumed Shelby sent them hOme. Just curious.

It was Shelby who sent Huntersville (Eastern 1) packing. Shelby has played both series to five games and the fact they are still fighting is a testament to Mike Grayson (who by the way was sidelined with a heart ailment this year) and his team. Another note the Area IV tournament was straight chalk until Shelby defeated Huntersville. Every top seed in every matchup won until that point.

On Tuesday Caldwell moved to within a game of the Area IV Finals by defeating the Gaston Braves at South Point HS. And Shelby evened their series with Cherryville defeating them in 11 innings, 7-6.

Now that I got my anger level nice and calm... :)

The Gaston Braves when they don't commit errors are the best team in Area IV. They hit the baseball so well and their pitching was great. And just for reference, they are great baseball players and even better people. I will never forget seeing the Post 29 player down in the parking lot in Belmont and to see what seemed like the entire Gaston Braves team, pulling up in the parking lot.

They defeated Caldwell Post 29 tonight to take Game 5 of the series and move onto which I believe is their first Area IV Final ever. Congratulations.

This should be a great championship series between two quality programs. Congratulations to the G-Braves on their great comeback win over Caldwell County! Well done, gentlemen!

Well do you see what happens if you wait on someone else to help you out! Cherryville and Gaston are now tied at a game a piece and this one could be a great series. It is also the best of 7
