OH BULLSHIT LUIGIBOY...THE SCORE SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2-2 IN THE NINTH....SAME PLATE UMPIRE HOSED CALDWELL ON ANOTHER CALL AT THE PLATE EARLIER IN THE GAME.

I can't see the throw, slide or the tag completely on the video. I listened live (watching Olympics) and watched the replay online. Heard announcers say several conflicting things: he's out, sweep tag, the ball came out, and the umpire had not signaled. It's confusing. Nobody is perfect. Typically you hold the ball, and show the umpire you still have it. Glad for Legion it didn't escalate further.

Drove up from Shelby today to watch some good ole American Legion Baseball and clearly nothing has changed. Two good teams Cherryville and Caldwell battling to get to the State Championship Game and then it happened. The umpire behind the plate made a few bad calls that really swung the momentum to the side of Cherryville. The call at the plate in the 8th inning was as bad a call as I have seen this year in American Legion Baseball then the Caldwell coaches came onto the field and there were some ejections and some players ejected which is not good for the game. Never the less I know the umpire which was behind the plate and he really isn't qualified to be a coach pitch umpire letta alone a American Legion umpire. Maybe the folks from American Legion can do a better job with there selection for the umpires for tomorrows Championship Game. Good Luck to all the teams and will see you in a few weeks in Shelby.

Umpires try to call the player safe when the ball is laying on the ground. Umpire made a great call that happened to go against Caldwell. In between hyperventilating....try and pick up a rulebook and read it.

It's not confusing at all. There is no voluntary release on a tag. The rule states the tagging action has to stop. If the balls falls out of the glove on the follow through the
tagging action hasn't stopped. The umpire waited to make sure the ball was still in the glove. It wasn't...therefore the runner is safe. I don't have a dog in the fight but the umpire did make the correct call.
