I should just let this close itself out, but after some research I found out there was a girl who had the 3rd highest batting average in the State of North Carolina high school softball. Led the State in stolen bases, 3rd in hits, 2nd in OB% and did NOT make ALL-STATE. She was nominated, but did not make it! We did however have Daisy Mae whose Daddy coaches her High School softball team. She batted under .300, (0 - HR's, 0 -triples, 0 -doubles, 0 -SB). She is not a pitcher. She is an infielder. She made All-State??? Do we have a FLAW in the system? This is for the girls!! Not for Daddy who coaches or is on the board! Its for the girls, the players! Quit being political! Vote for the girls who work hard! The girl who did not make All-State has had 27 Scholarship offers. The girl who has made All-State has had 0, ZERO!!

while i do commend those who have tried to make this work the all-state, and all-district awards are very much less than good, accurate or fitting, I don't even look at them anymore at all. In reality it is impossible to have this in a way where the best will be rewarded. also there are so many girls on the teams it actually would mean very little to be there anyway. I was shocked to see the above post where it was stated a girl was nominated and didn't make it. I thought all you had to do to make the team was be nominated , Actually it is not a performance reward it is a popularity award. If the player or thier parents are well known you will make it, If your not your probablly out

Unbelievable! Put a little clearer, I don't believe you! Show me the facts!

27 scholarship offers? Were they all softball scholarships?

PS: Where can I find the stats for the State of North Carolina HS softball?
PPS: Once the nominated players' names leave your conference, there is a very good chance that the Regional voters have never even seen the nominees play.

Why don't you give "Daisy Mae" a break, this may be her only chance at 15 minutes of fame.

I wish there was some way for all these awards to be given only to those who deserve it instead of the politically way it is done. Even all conference is a joke. I know for a fact in some conferences they don't vote on all conference as each team has a specific number of player depending on how you finish in conference. The coach from each team just tells who he wants on all conference and that is who gets it. No voting. It's a joke

That's the way they do it around here. That's not a bad way when you think about it. Who sees the players play more than their own coach? Who is going to know more about who deserves what than the player's own fans?

The more "All Conference" caliber players on a team the more likely they are to finish high in the standings. That's one reason to allow more picks for the higher teams.

I have to give praise to those who try to make this work. If it was me doing it, it would already be history!

I'm still thinking about how much better it would be to recognize whole teams, complete with team photos with player names.

State Champs, Conference Champs, etc. Recognize winning pitchers, maybe, but no MVPs.

A pitcher can't win the game on their own...it takes an entire team in the field and a host of bats at the plate. A pitcher can pitch a perfect game, but guess what - unless someone scores a run, she doesn't win. The mentality that you should recognize 1 position and overlook the 8 other positions is, well, honestly I can't even come up with a phrase for it because it is so damned dismissive of what those other eight players do to get those outs and makes a pitcher look great.

You show me a girl that can strike out 21 in a row (making sure to get to the plate to catch her own pitch and frame it), and get enough home runs each game - all on her lonesome - to win the game on her own, THEN single out only the pitcher.

Honestly... I am thoroughly disgusted at this post.

Stop speaking out of both sides of your mouth on this issue. You can't continually say "entire team" and then say "except the pitcher who is the only special player that should be recognized"!

I said "recognize winning pitcher, maybe". Did you read into that that I meant she should be the MVP?

I agree with you that there should be NO MVP!

    I'll decide how I speak!!

You spoke perfectly clear. You clearly stated recognize the pitcher - ONLY the pitcher. A pitcher cannot win a game on her own. It takes at least 9 to win a game.

Feel free to speak as you wish, I never told you your "speak" was wrong. Your nobody should be singled out...but wait, except maybe ONLY the "WINNING" pitcher should be is absolutely wrong.

You are trying to ride two ponies with one ass with your only recognize the team, not individual players but wait except pitchers argument.

Many, many conference championships have been won with adequate pitchers and outstanding defense/offense. No one can say the same that a pitcher has won many a conference/district/regional/state championship without any defensive or offensive support.

As a matter of fact, there was a school just a couple of years back whose *Star* pitcher didn't stand on that mound to take them to the state championship. It was an outstanding utility player, who pitched well, not exceptionally, but was backed by a brick wall of defense and an offense with bats on fire.

Maybe we need to start a thread asking for opinions of how valuable a pitcher is. I've already stated my belief in "team." Twist it how you want.

The opinions expressed in a thread asking about the importance of having great pitching may surprise you.

If you want to start the thread I'll join you. Otherwise, you can have the last word, here, as far as I'm concerned.
