It came to my attention yesterday just prior to our conference game with Northwood HS that some area college coaches think my player and son has signed with ECU. I wanted to get the correct information out, Trent a RHP/1B playing at Franklin Academy in the Carolina 12 conference was recruited by ECU but never offered. He is still unsigned. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank You.

    Confusion???????

For sure, Trent is a stud.
Folks might be getting him confused with another Watkins, Travis. Travis Watkins played at Cox Mill. He is the starting catcher for ECU as a freshman. Also a stud...........

I posted the comment because I heard from the coach at Northwood that a local DII coach has it in his notes that Trent was committed to ECU. This same coach has contacted Trent's showcase coach with interest last week and apparently didn't pursue any further because of this erroneous info.

    I'm sure it's just me...

... but why wouldn't/didn't a college coach contact the HS coach about any interest? The HS coach - who can know for sure if a kid has signed - who can get transcripts in minutes - who can discuss the potential player's day-in-day-out character and work ethic and habits - who can discuss the player as a teammate in an actual locker room during months of play, not just a weekend - who can talk about progression from age 14 to 15 to 16 to 17, not just the last 8 weeks' performance - who most similarly mirrors the type of schematic the college coach would be plugging a possible player into as a day-to-day student athlete at an actual school.

I know, I know, I need to let it all go and let the current, unavoidable, grand system work it's "magic".

Maybe he should have contacted his High School coach, it is HS baseball season.

Sorry Catcoach, not trying to duplicate you. You must have been posting same time.

Since his HS coach (myself) is his dad I think some coaches worry about bias. I do however discuss his attributes as well as his shortcomings openly. I'm
An open book, I even chose to use my real name as a log in for accountability. Simply put the kid lives and loves the game. He may not be a top tier DI Player but I do know he is a mid-major player. He has had multiple offers to play DIII ball with each one telling him in writing that he would be an immediate impact player as a pitcher and position player. If the DI scholly doesn't materialize he will play DIII and continue to work with his pitching coach to move to the next step.
