4A State Playoffs

Does anyone else find it ironic that the SW4A always gets the majority of the coverage in Charlotte but for the last 2 years most of their "powerhouse" teams don't make it past the 1st round?

How about some respect to the IMECK!!!!

2012- Every team but one made it to 2nd round and Hough made it to state championship

2013- Every team but one made it to the 2nd round again!

I think the stats speak for themselves....the best conference in Charlotte 4A is the IMECK!

 

Without question, the SW4A is in a down cycle over the last two seasons. While there still have been some outstanding players, the teams as a whole are not a strong as they have been in the past, especially this season. True it has been disappointing the last two years during the playoffs, but the total history of the league speaks for itself.

Since the I-Meck plays in the lower bracket of the west division and the majority of the SW4A schools played in the upper division it is difficult to compare playoff records since the I-Meck is has not played one team of the upper division that SW4A schools played. However, we can look at how the two leagues fared against each other over the last two seasons.

The SW4A was 26-13 against the I-Meck in the last two year. The I-Meck’s winning percentage did increase in 2013 from .273 last year to .412 this season. However, of the seven wins the I-Meck had this season, six were against the lower division of the SW4A while the I-Meck went 1-9 against the top four schools, and 0-fer against the top three schools. I guess those are not the stats that speak for themselves that you where referencing.

Your post includes a request for some respect, yet you feel it necessary to make less than favorable remarks about other teams, or in other words, disrespecting those teams’ programs. I did not realize that respect should only be a one way street.

Best of luck to all the remaining I-Meck schools in the playoffs. Hope to see one of them and South Meck in the regionals.

 

There is alot ot be said of the upper and lower part of the bracket for the playoffs. I noticed that the upper had 6 teams with 19 wins or more and the lower only had 2. The lower bracket had 5 team with a .500 or lower record and the upper had none. How does this happen? Is this bracket set in stone because it seemed to be that way last year too.

 

SW and IMECK

True, all but One I MECK team made it through the first round. Mallard Creek which won the regular I Meck season played a weaker team but non the less lost the game while looking bad. We watched at least two I Meck games every week of the season and reluctantly say there is not a very good team in the league. There are a few very good players tho.

If the SW is at th same level as the I Meck, then there are two impotent leagues.

As far as the SW teams not showing up for playoff games: Clem says the really good teams win when it counts.

 

Yes, the brackets are pre arranged by leagues. Same pairings are used by the NCHSAA for multiple sports.

There will be new pairings next year with the 2013-14 realignment.

 

Wish they would go to a seeding system much like they do in basketball. Would reward teams for winning their conference and having a good record!

 

Tri-9 best conference in the state. 4 or 5 state championships in the past 12 years. 4 teams left this year after 2 rounds of the playoffs.

 

Listen, I am no expert on the baseball that was played in Char-Meck this year but I can tell you based on a limited sample of games watched that the I-Meck conf has a bunch of decent teams this year...no dominant team, but a bunch of decent teams.

The one common thing I saw from as many as 4 teams was that each one of them was not sharp defensively in executing the fundamentals. Not blocking balls in the dirt and not having an accurate outfielder cost Mallard Creek both of its runs in their first round lost to McDowell.

Last night Lake Norman committed 4 errors in their game with AC Reynolds. Hough also committed 4 errors at TC Roberson.


It's the fundamentals that will cost a team in the playoffs, close games that are low scoring, it's the small details that become magnified in this kind of situation.


I also think you have to give the proper credit to a league like the Mountain Athletic Conference, all 3 of the 4A programs won yesterday, two of those threw their #2 starters and both were very impressive. Nobody outside of Western North Carolina realized just how good the MAC 3A/4A was this year, especially its top half...a lot of people are now finding that out.

 

I agree with everything that has been said about other 4A conferences. Kudos to the Mountain Athletic and the Tri-9. My main problem is in Meck County. I realize Meck County teams as a whole have not done well in the state playoffs recently. But within the county, the SW4A gets all the credit and media coverage and they have not performed in the playoffs. You can give me all the statistics and head to head percentages you want, BUT, the simple truth is that in the last 2 years the IMECK has gotten done in the playoffs and the SW4A has not....period!

As to the SW4A supposedly playing aginst the better teams in the bracket, you either win when it counts or you don't. No matter who you play.

I wish the best of luck to South Meck. I am hoping they keep winning and represent Meck County, as well as Olympic.

I just wish everyone would stop giving the SW4A all the accolades BEFORE they actually deserve them.

 

Witnessed 1st hand

No doubt about it!!. I saw first hand last night as did 3 other CAP8 teams in the playoffs. I think what stinks is that all 5 CAP and 5 Tri-9 team were in the same half of the draw. The TRI-9 will have a team in the 4A east championship for sure now.
