I agree Stanly, and good luck to your daughter.

I don't think the NCAA can legislate out verbal commitments. They can't create policy that can't be governed.

I have no issue with any Power 5 school and NEVER said or implied that a kid wouldn't get a good education there. What I said it was more about PLAYING at a Power 5 instead of the education and softball could be a avenue or resource for a kid.

"And don't tell me a 14 year old doesn't know her major, as the vast majority of 21 year olds don't either" - A 14 year wouldn't be capable of knowing her major, she might think she does but that ain't true and if you're 21 and don't have it figured out by then...... well lets just say you might be a career college student.

As far as the 2019 commitment for Florida, I don't know her, her parents or her coach so I wouldn't say they are "crappy", that would be you putting words in others mouths. I will tell you this, I believe it's a mistake and if she washes out, you can best believe they will look back and say the decision was made to soon and she should have waited a year or two before making it but I'm sure no one will ever hear that story

The NCAA could certainly try but there will always be those that circumvent rules and policies to serve their own purpose not to mention those parents that have got to have their kid(s) playing big time D1 ball or it was all for nothing

I agree with all the comments that D1 is recruiting and making offers too young. My daughter did wait and found a great fit. But I can tell you from experience that the D1 schools typically don't have much money these days available for rising Juniors or Seniors, no matter how good they are. They are all jockeying to lock up the 14U and 16U players before someone else does. It is hurting the players and the college programs. Girls are committing to D1 & D2 schools for little or no money and finding themselves on a roster of 30 players and no playing time. College coaches are verbally committing young players who turn out to not be D1 talent, and posting losing records year after year. D1 talent is playing D2 and D3 because they did not commit early. It's a mess.

I am a travel coach in Ohio with players from the classes of 2020, 2019, and 2018. While I totally agree that kids this young shouldn't have to make such a decision at such an early age I feel it would be irresponsible for me to ignore the market.

Case in point I have a player who is new to our team this year from the class of 2018. She is an absolute stud and has dreamed all her life of playing at a particular MAC school in Ohio. Her previous coach did nothing to educate her family or promote her to this school, let alone any other. I had the unfortunate job of telling this kid that her dream school was already done recruiting the class of 2018 and was now only interested in Freshmen and 8th graders. This isn't power 5 we're talking!

Hey I didn't create the market but I talk to a LOT of D1 coaches about their recruiting situation. College Coaches are getting fired for failing to be competitive and that is driving the demand to recruit underclassmen. It is what it is. I was in Arizona last week and talked to the parents of a kid who plays for OC Batbusters. They told me UCLA was already done recruiting the class of 2019!

Bottom line for me is that I am doing everything I can to get my kids opportunities to be seen by D1 College Coaches now. I don't want to have to look any more families in the eye and say "sorry you're too late". Now if they get opportunities and fail to impress the coaches, that's another matter.
