    I think the comments in the article about the dangers of metal bats are right on and it is a true shame that such incidents have to happen to bring up this issue. If the NCAA would go to wood or at least reduce the potency of the bats (outlawing rolled bats was a good start), I believe HS would follow. I have heard the arguments about cost and slowing down the game, but these are our kids and safety should be the primary issue. My true sympathy to the family and I hope this young man recovers.

    Metal Bats

    As the father of a pitcher, we worry about balls, strikes, 0-2 bombs, ERA, wins-loses, etc. But, this is the biggest worry of all! Metal bats SUCK!

    My son was hit in the face while pitching nearly 11 years ago. I suppose the safety issues have been studied to death by now. Bottom line, metal bats are not safe.
