I was sad to read this in the paper this morning:

South Carolina coach Ray Tanner dismissed two freshmen from the team Monday. Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Fuller violated team policy, Tanner said in a statement.

"This is a very unfortunate situation", Tanner said. "Both of these young men come from outstanding families and I feel bad for their parents. It is inappropriate for me to make any other comments, as this case is now in the hands of the legal authorities."

Both players were in the Richland County jail Monday night, according to the jail's Web site.

Fuller has been charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny, while Chisenhall is charged one count each of grand larceny and burglary, according to the jail

It was not immediately clear which police agency charged the players.

Chisenhall is a left-handed outfielder who started 19 of South Carolina's 20 games hitting .313 with one home run and 13 RBI's.

Fuller is a right-handed pitcher who did not allow a hit or a run in five innings of relief. He had seven strikeouts and seven walks in his six appearances.

    I hate to see this.

Too often young men (and women) are exposed to bad influences and make wrong choices when they leave home for the first time.

I'm not familiar with Nick Fuller but Lonnie Chisenhall was considered by many to be "the best of the best" at the NC State American Legion championship in Thomasville this past summer. This was a group that included Madison Bumgarner, Drew Poulk, Kyle Seager, Alex White, Jerrod Faggart, Keith Mauney, Blake Ketner, Garrett Sherrill and many other great baseball players.

Hopefully, this wrong can be righted and these two young men can get this behind them and their lives back on the right track.
