    Use It!

"Use it and use it a lot!" Mike Candrea told us at a coaches clinic.

That's the best way to get the proper pocket and feel to a glove. All the other things.....foams, oils, baking, and straps really don't work. Using these things, many times the glove will end up looking like a taco rather than a glove!

    Ball on a stick

You can take an old ball and drill a hole in it for a rod. Put the glove on use the ball and rod like a hammer. This will break it in quicker than just playing catch.

    Glove

Used Vaseline and do it twice a day on two Nokonas and they were ready to go within a week.

ok... here is a TRADE secret Guru... NOW you owe me big time!!!

This technique was given me by a former professional baseball player who was a batboy for the LA Dodgers when his father played for them. Mike Sciosia who was a catcher for them at that time and now is manager of the CA Angels broke in everyones glove using this technique:

Take two balls (in this case 2 of the smaller 10 inch softballs work best). Shove them hard down into the pocket. Now stretch the glove around them pulling as hard as you can. Take an ace bandage and wrap it TIGHT all around the glove tucking it in at the end. In other words caccoon the glove. We are forming the glove into the perfect shape with this process. Now fill a bathtub with hot water and submerge the glove under the water until the bubbles stop coming to the surface. Take a metal coat hanger and untwist it so you can hang up the glove to dry. The drying process can take from just a few days to a week depending on humidity. Do not rush this part of the process! When dry unwrap take the balls out and rub a GENEROUS amount of vaseline all over the glove inside and out. Now take a hair dryer and watch as the vaseline turns into a liquid and soaks into the glove right before your eyes. After this part of the process is done take and bend the glove in every direction imaginable. Also take a ball and throw it into the pocket as hard as you can. The glove, no matter what make, should be ready for play at this point.

I know some will cringe at the thought of soaking an expensive ball glove but I have done this with even a Nokona Buffalo with great results. Old timers who served in the military would use a similar technique to break in their boots... soaking them and wearing them until dry!

That's what we were told when we bought the Liberty. It broke in real fast with lots of practice/use.
