I have been reading the site for a couple of months - based on a recommendation from another dad on my son's jv team. I finally signed up...here is my question:

The other night I was watching the highlights of a game where a White Sox player slid into home, but missed the plate. There was no tag made on him. He went into his dugout. The pitcher then threw to the catcher before the next batter came to bat and the catcher stepped on the plate and the home plate umpire called the runner out.

I thought he would have been called out when he left the field of play (like a dropped third strike). Anybody know this rule? Is high school different on this rule than MLB?

    You make the call Blue....

In high school a missed bag or plate has to be appealed by the defense before an umpire is going to call an out otherwise the umpire is just going to leave well enough alone. By the way welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

    major league rules

thats why i wish everyone used the pro rules with the college slide rule. much easier without all the gibberish from the fed. also much easier to keepup with the lineup card(no reentry), and DH for the pitcher only. But i understnad why those HS rules are in place, player participation.
