    Well, no.
We really have sat down and looked at age and progression through grades.
I don't want my son - if he has athletic ability/possibilities in the future - to graduate at 17 like I did. While I was not in any way "gifted" and had no prospects at "next level" (just a "great kid who played hard") I would have liked to have had an extra year or so, because I was very different physically as a 19 year old college soph than I was at 17 HS senior.

And as for the mom vs me athletic references, no tongue in cheek there either. My wife played varsity basketball as an 8th grader (was a private Christian school) because she was 5'7" at that age. She went on to paly basketball, softball and cheer. The latter a little in college as well - but is that even a sport? :)bounce:) And, as stated, I was just an average player who tried really hard. It does look like, even at age 8, "IIIrd" will be a bit better than dad was. His swing now is better than mine was at 17!

My son has a mid July birthday and while I know some who have held their son back, it really never crossed our mind. I always wanted him to play against the older, bigger, usually better competition and at least for him it paid off I believe. I can understand the maturity concerns and those are valid points. So many good people where involved in his progression and it kept me out of his way, I think that alone had a bigger impact than his birth date.
