Verbal Commitments for 2005 Class

thanks strikeoutking18 i appreciate the info. He is one of my favorite lefties in this class. I know his older brother very well. It would be fitting to follow in his brother's footsteps. Matt has been a special player at Catawba. As for Ryan Query, Catawba got a steal with him and Blake Ketner. I guess that is why Catawba is one of the best DII's around. They are really doing a great job this fall.

 

Fairweather Committs\signs with Catawba

As an update to my earlier post, Alex Fairweather, LHP from West Caldwell has committed (and I believe signed) with Catawba....Congrats to a close friend and looking forward to playing alongside him in Legion once again....

 

Way to go Alex !!!! I'm looking forward to hearing some noise out of West Caldwell in the 2-A Mountain Valley this year !!!!!!

 

We are sitting on 59 with only today and tomorrow left in the early signing period. If we stay at 59, I expect another 250+ to commit in the spring across the state.

Of course, there may be a few who have committed and don't own computers. Until the paper-work is completed and sent in to the NCAA by the College/University, it won't appear on their web-site either. Hard to know if everyone who committed early actually signed also.

Remember guys/gals ... everything is just educated guesswork.

 

Mars Hill Signees/Dameron & Tillman

Andy Tillman (OF, Sun Valley) and Matt Dameron (RHP/OF, East Gaston) have signed this week with Mars Hill. Both of these guys are great assets to their school teams and are leaders in the summer and fall team with the Charlotte Megastars. They join former Megastar standout 2nd baseman Ryan Smith (Sun Valley '04) at Mars Hill. Coach Taylor has recruited some very good local talent from the 04 class and now from the 05 class. Andy leads off for his teams with a quick bat and excellent speed. He also covers a tremendous amount of territory in centerfield - catches balls that you think are going to be hits for sure! Matt Dameron has developed into quite a strong pitcher and is very versatile in defensive positions as well. He can be seen fielding ground balls at 3rd one game, on the hill another, and then running down fly balls in the outfield as well. He is an asset to his East Gaston team, and has emerged as one of the leading pitchers with the Megastars. Both players have been with the Megastars since they were 15 and have developed into great high school players. My family is very excited for them. Congratulations to both families and to both deserving players! :applause: :applause:

Mars Hill signees - Tillman and Dameron

I would like to offer my congrats to both Andy and Matt for signing with Mars Hill and being able to play at the next level. Redbirdfan stole some of my thunder but I have been able to watch these guys improve tremendously over the past several years. First, with Andy beginning as an All-Star with Indian Trail Athletic Association, playing varsity at Sun Valley, and being a part of the Megastar family. Of course with the Megastars, he is fondly referred as "Joe D". He has an unique ability for getting on base, has exceptional speed and has that special ability for tracking down balls in the outfield.

Matt has that ability that you would want all your pitchers to have. Nothing seems to rattle him or shake him up. He just goes about his business and gets the job done. I will never forget two summers ago, when our team was playing in Myrtle Beach and like most teams we were starting to hurt for pitching by our last game. We were playing the MB Pelicans and were in a tie game with the bases loaded with no outs. In comes Matt to shut them down without scoring.

As with many of the fine young men that are mentioned on this website, the Tillman and Dameron families are also wonderful people.

Travis Murray Commits to Wingate

TC Roberson Senior RHP Travis Murray has signed a national leteter of intent to attend Wingate University. Congratulations to Travis and his family.

 

That's great news for Travis ... and it shows the depth of the TC Roberson team this coming spring.

It also brings the total up to 62 known commits thus far ... We need 1 more for the over/under bubble to burst !!!!

 

Michael Bogaert, Ashbrook HS, RHP/1B has committed to play for UNC-Asheville. Mike can also catch and swings a mean stick. This is another great pickup for the Asheville program.
