This thread kind of goes along with the thread about girls not staying with one team very long.

Would most girls choose to be a role player who plays occasionally on a great team OR would most rather be the Star on a team that isn't very good at all?? Just for discussion, the coaches on each team are equal in ability.
Also, how do the parents feel about this?

I have always tried to have mine playing where she is challenged to be one of the best. She works all year long and as she became one of the best on a team, I noticed that her level of play would drop down. Then it was time to move on to a more challenging team. This is just our case but if she is not challenged, then she won't have to strive to become better. Does this make sense?

My girls were all Coached to be role players. The reason for this is because 9 girls take the field NOT just 1. As a recruiter I looked for parents and DD's that fit my program. that program was to be able to compete with any team they played against. We were successful in doing that because of a joint commitment not superstars.. I looked for leaders not superstars. I have had parents that felt their DD was much better than what I gave them credit for and because of this they moved on to what I hope was the greener side for them. As far as my DD, she began her 2004 season watching her team play from the dugout. When her Mom & I discussed her future with her she was given an option. Work hard, prove yourself threw hard practice, dedication, believeing in herself and her talent will guide her to being the starter she wanted to be NOT Dad because he's the Coach. I did the same for any girl that ever played for me.
They were all role players that played on a great team.

Role on TEAM, instead of the individual.......but seems that is lacking in many areas these days......

you want them to be a role player and hope you have 9 other girls that are role players also it takes 9 girls to win and 9 girls to loose if you only have a star player you never get the reward of hard work by winning and thats what we as parents should want also
