What is it about Girls and staying with one team/

Another issue

Here is another issue associated with this. When the girls decide to leave a team high and dry, this leaves quality young ladies out there without a team because most of the "elite teams" already have a full roster. This is not fair to those that were dedicated to their team and coach and thought that they were in a good situation. Curious as to how the quality players get a team, and can be assured that this will not happen again.

Probably one of the most profound statements was COACHES DO NO GO TO SHOWCASE TOURNAMENTS TO DISCOVER TALENT. They already have their list of players they are going to evaluate.They know their game times and field locations before they make their travel arrangements. Coaches and Parents and yes even the player have to make sure this information is the hands of the schools they are interested in. Coaches usually have a list of players they have been tracking for a couple of years and they recruit by position needed each year. Every college is not looking for OF,IF,P,C every year. They have specific needs and thats what they key on. ASA showcase tournamnets that they attend are usually ran better than your normal ones. Game times ,field locations are very important because they are trying to see a lot in a short time. Thats why their are drop dead times and seeding by the director. They just don't draw your teams name out of a hat. They try to put somewhat equal teams in the same brackett,lets face it some teams are stronger than others. A good coach will know when a coach will attend their game because usually they want to see a certain player and that info is needed so that player will be playing. I know this happens and the line up and rotation are planned out before the tournament even starts. As far as players switching teams ,sometimes it is necessary to get the player on a high profile team.I don't have any personal exp. at this both my DD only palyed on 2 teams. West coast teams have a great advantage of plying good tournaments year round,Fla also is doing this now. Talking with some players from the west they are not playing HS ball but playing travel year round. They also don't make many mistakes during a game,which having played against them that is ussually where the NC teams in up losing a lot of close games. But take a look at the NC college teams and their rosters have more local kids than ever and are increasing each year.

 

speedandstrength, how to keep it from happening is what I was referring to at the end of my post... Until coaches and parents start, not only, learning the concept of team, but also practicing it the kids will never learn it...

what we all tend to forget when our child is involved is the value of everyone on a team working together to a common goal... We have all seen this in action... take the LA Lakers... best talent money could buy but could not win a championship... Detroit on the other had, no one stand out player just a well coached group of team players... everyone knowing their role and operating within that role... A couple of other examples... look at what Carolina has done in basketball this year now that Coach Williams has dealt with outstanding athletes in teaching them the team concept... Duke also has probably the least talented team in years and is undefeated... Point being the right attitudes and team concepts start with the Coaches and Parents and end with the kids not the other way around.... And to be honest with you College Coaches look at this as well when recruiting... They don't want to deal with the attitude problem of a kid much less a parent... The old saying that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree is very true...

Bottom line... This problem will begin to be resolved once people stop just looking out for Number 1... what made guys like Michael Jordan and Grant Hill great was not just their outstanding talent, but the ability to make others around them better as well... this lesson was learned from great coaches and good parents....

Still curious as to how these quality girls that need teams because of the team breaking up are supposed to find a team on such short notice. That leaves 4-5 girls looking, and again, the quality teams are filled.:huh:

 

What area are you in and what is the age group?
There are quite a few teams looking for players. Some of them will be a better fit then others but thats where your homework comes in.
We have been very fortunate in that our player turnover has been small in the four years we have been together. That may be one question to ask the coach or parents. Another thing may be to try and find a team that has a coach with no relatives on the team, or at very least if they have relatives they dont play the same position as your DD.

This statement is right on as well as most of the comments made in this thread but the one statement I made earlier that I want to emphasize strongly again is this. The players switch teams to get on those teams that go to the tournaments that play against equal competition. If you DD is being looked at by a college coach and you go to tournaments where the competition is weak then that raises doubts in that coaches mind about whether your DD could play at the level of competition that she will face in college. Doesn't mean she wont go and play in college but her chances are not as good as they could have been.

 

Age?

What about young ladies that are young enough to just start being seen? and they have no place to go?

 

How young? what grade? and exactly where is no place to go?
My biggest point in all this has been that if the team you are on is going to the right tournaments then you are probably on a good team. If not then find one.

 

College coaches have a list of players they are interested in or have seen before. Then they go to high quality tournaments to see if they are better players than the ones they think they want. Most college players are found when the college coach goes to see a player on the other team. Point being, if college is a high priority for your DD, not the parent, then put them in the best enviornment possible.

Also about players leaving a team hanging, commitments should only be made for one season at a time. Once you have committed to a team for the upcoming season, play for that team. Loyality is an important part of character. After that season is over contact the better teams to let them know you are interested in playing for them and after plenty of thought commit to someone again. If you tell the manager or coach that you will play for them the upcoming season honor that!


Teams recruited highly in the Carolinas by college coaches are; Carolina Cardinals, Lady Blues, NC Wildcats, NC Flames, SC Flames, SC Bandits, CC Challengers and SC Dynamites. The Southern Explosion is making a quick name for it's self and The Carolina Pride will hold it's own against these teams. These are the optimum teams that go where the coaches are and will make a good showing. :xyzthumbs
