Burns has a chance to have a good team if they can pull everyone together. You hate to see any high school team lose players like that, alot of high schools can,t afford to lose players and those 2 can play. I,m sure the coach has her reasons though. And Shelby needs to get some coaches that are going to start building from the middle school up. They have alot of athletes in that school to work with, it is a shame for Cleveland County and the kids in that school that could make it as fastpitch players. Could you even imagine Shelby not fielding a Baseball team? FastPitch is getting stonger in Cleveland County, Lets not let it get away!

What are some of the reasons some of you can think of for
cutting 2 all state seniors off the team??
rumor is these girls were taking a class at the college--can a coach drop players for continuing there education.

    Burns???????????

I hear through the grapevine that it is something personal with the coach. How do you cut a player that throws the ball as hard and hits as good as the pitcher does??? It can't be attitude because I know the girls and they have never displayed anything that suggests that they would be a "cancer" on the team. I guess it goes to show you that athletics, in some circles, has become so different. Its no longer about winning and loosing, putting the best players on the field, everyone knowing their role on the team, no "me" players OR parents, and no longer about making great life-long memories. Now this isn't everywhere but this is becoming more and more common. But getting back to the question.........it makes no sense and I hope that the administration gets involved and gets to the bottom of it. Now, I am all for the coach making his/her own decisions without interference from school officials. Thats why they are hired,to do a job. I don't think the administration should have any control of "coaches" decisions. But in this case something just doesn't seem right. If the kids were done wrong then the principal sould step in.

One of the biggest problems is that at many schools they only use teachers as head coaches. You end up with a lot of English, math or home ec. teachers coaching and they don't know what they are doing and many are not truly dedicated. Although some that are dedicated and try hard they still can't teach our kidds how to play the game. You would never see this with football so we shouldn't settle for it in softball. Some schools (Central Cabarrus) for one go out and hire a "coach" for their softball teams and you see the results State Champs. I have heard it said that the schools wouldn't hire someone unqualified to teach english so why would they do it to coach a sport. My kidds have learned as much on the field that will help them in life as they have in the classroom. Both go hand in hand. I would like to see more good coaches for our teams whether they teach or not if they are willing to do the work
