Bucktrap, are you saying that there is no going back? That if the coach did have incorrect info that she cannot rectify this situation? That her only response would be, "sorry maybe next time"? They are seniors and should be given a second chance or even "A" Chance if for no other reason. I would think that they have paid their dues by now. This doesn't mean that they are given a blank check on conduct or commitment. But, it does mean that they have earned some respect. The same respect that the coach is demanding and deserves. Just curious....

EnkaJet, I'm not sure there is any going back. I would be concerned what message that sends to the team. e.g. If you get cut and your parents go to the principal and school board, you can get back on the team. I have also been giving the "bad" information arguement the benefit of the doubt. I think, in reality, the coach had the correct information. These players were, by almost every account, going to be missing a great deal of playing and practice time this season. Although some have said the players had dropped the class, it is very easy for someone to determine if they are still enrolled.

I do unfortunately think that letting them back on the team may, in effect, hurt morale more than keeping them off. After all, what is the coach to do with the two players that have made the team, who most likely would now be cut to make room for the other two? Would thier parents not complain, and would we not be on here talking about the NEW situation at Burns? Also, I worry about setting precedents. If they are allowed back on, I think it gives free reign to all students to take evening classes and miss practice with no fear of being cut. All decisions in an acedemic setting have long standing effects.

Lastly, there has been so much bad blood involved in this situation (and believe me I understand why). I'm not sure both sides could ever "get along" well enough to make it through the season. The ticking time bomb would eventually explode. You're like me Enkajet. We try to be peace makers and I appreciate that. I'm just not sure this can be fixed that easily.

These players were not going to miss any practice time or game time because again one dropped the class and you can call the college and check and the other stated that ball was first. It is my understanding that the coaches did know the day of the pitcher dropping the class because she told the asst coach personally. Sounds like there might have been an area of miscommunication as well as the players miscommunication. Everyone envolved made mistakes. As stated before all parties need to get together and make this situation right and it can be made right and it would send a very positive message to everyone. I bet if you asked the parents of the girls who made it I think you would get a positive reaction for the girls situation!! That is just my opinion through and I have stated it and now I will bow out of this conversion all together. Good conversion all the way around.

Alright, I was going to stay out, but following this post, I cannot resist.

I will not give my opinion on the 3 seniors, except for to say, that it is not too late to work it out. Otherwise, this season, and maybe more will be tough. I think it would be much easier to go back and fix this, rather than suffer the future consequences.

Of course adding them would mean adding a few others which brings me to some other questions you guys have not even considered:

    1. Why is there no JV Program? (There are enough players)

    2. Why was a prominent JV & Summer League player (sophomore) cut?

    3. Why did at least 8 other underclass players with JV and Summer League
    experience not try out?

Folks, this program had about a 4 year window (including this year) to come up to speed. They needed every single player of all ages with any experience out there trying to improve to complement the talented ones that need teammates.

I have personal reasons to hope for a miracle, but unfortunately, miracles don't happen often. I guess time will tell who's going to do the suffering. Anybody that cares about softball already is! Many dreams have been smashed for whatever reason. I hope more dreams don't follow down the same road. I must add that this did not come out of the blue. There was fair warning!

Thanks FPSOFTBALL. I'm about ready to bow out too. I know how you feel. I think we've sucessfully beaten this old dead horse. One possibly final thought. If someone could prove to you that the players were most definitely still enrolled in the class as of the final cut date, would that change your opionion? Like you say, it would be as simple as calling the community college and speaking to admissions or the professor to find out for sure. If I were the coach that's what I would have done, prior to making my cuts. My guess is that's exactly what the coach did. If she did, then she probably has an even stronger case for the cuts. We may or may not ever know for sure.

On a personal note, it's refreshing to be able to exchange ideas with people like ya'll. No anger and backbiting, name calling and threats. I hope this situation works out for the best of everyone involved.

The underlying answer to all your questions, and issues like this, lays in the fact that girls sports at the school have no priority whatsoever. The coaches for girls sports at the school probably do the best they can, but they are not the coaches that will put together PROGRAMS. As I said, no disrespect to the current coaches at all. Until the administrators and the AD decide that they have as much pride in the girls sports development at the school as they do in the boys, these types of issues won't go away. Until they go after coaches because of what they can do for the development of the program, instead of going after coaches that will simply fill the role, this stuff won't go away. Can you imagine them hiring a head football coach that has never played the game at the high school level, much less at the college level? Or has 0 years of formal coaching experience? There are plenty of these occurences in the girls sports at the school.

This is to you bucktrap.....i recall that your first message said that you was an uninterested bystander....that seems odd when you have said so much more that anyone. What do you have to do with any of this? Are you really just a bystander???? Seems like you are really close to the situation.

The coach already had a 2nd chance to get them on the team....she said that he decision was final...this was after she knew the fact. She has NO FEELINGS...in my opinion shes trying to make herself look like shes all that. Shes stupid if she thinks shes gonna get any respect from me or anybody else!

Tedy, this coach did play high school softball (at Burns High) and played in college at Gardner Webb. But you are right. The disparity between girls and guys athletics is appaling sometimes. I'm surprisingly far away from the situation softballchic. I just have a few good contacts. I'll do my best to shut my big trap on this issue from now on. I need to move on.
