As someone who only recently found this site, I must say I get a lot of enjoyment from this board. I am also a first time poster so be easy on me. Something that has been puzzling me recently and I thought I would introduce the topic. I don't mean to offend anyone, so please don't take my comments wrongly. Does anyone else believe that Andy Partin has crossed the line in being an objective observer of talent?

I believe Andy has done a pretty good job of reporting on the talent in the state. But over the last year the over hyping of certain players on Impact Baseball has become almost too much to take. This has nothing to do with the players because most are really good ballplayers, but Andy's overzealous promotion of certain players leaves the kids not possibly able to live up to his hype. This is unfair to the kid's. How many kid's can have the best left-handed swing in North Carolina? How many kids can be the best RHP in the state? How many kid's can have the best power or the best arm in the state? It goes on and on. He also seems to cover the same players over and over again. That are plenty of good players in this state that never get mentioned on his site. I for one would like to see more players mentioned instead of the same players.

Did Andy play baseball after high school? Was he ever a scout?

I'm always concerned on this board when someone's very first post is a negative attack on someone else. We have an absolute rule on this board ... no slamming.

No, I don't agree with all of Andy's rankings.

No, I don't agree with who he selects to cover.

I also know that the "reporting" is for the masses and not part of what Impact is all about. He has articles, rates players, teams, etc... and it's all interesting. He overlooks some guys at times ... The look of my #1 team for the state would have been completely different ....

But it's only about opinions, and yes, everyone's got one.

Sorry BB2005 ... you started out humble, but you kinda blew it. Question who he likes and say you don't care for the articles.... but trying to dig up his past history to use against him smells funny. I don't know your agenda, but it seems obvious that you have one.

    Agenda?

Oops! I make my first reply and go put the kids to bed and come back and I am getting slammed. As a current and future high school parent my intentions were no. 1 is to express how much I enjoy this site, no. 2 I thought I expressed how much I enjoy the Impact Baseball site, no. 3 I just had a serious question about if anyone else thought Impact was only covering the same players over and over, and setting the expectations to an unrealistic level for the kids, and no.4 by me asking about Andy's background I was in no way trying to impugn his qualifications, I just wanted to know what they are? I guess I did not do a very good job on my first post, sorry!

Not a problem at all and we are glad to have you here BB2005. We hope you'll fill us in on your favorite team and players.

We've all seen this problem over the years. Impact is a small operation. Each year, there are 400+ high schools (public and private) and about 3500 seniors playing baseball (maybe 12,000 baseball players in the entire state). I look at Perfect Game, who is the best in the business and realize that they miss way more inside NC than Impact does. Impact does go to HS games, the do catch legion action. Perfect Game doesn't have time for that. You have to attend one of their showcases or a WWBA event pretty much.

It's nearly impossible to cover it all. So we provide an outlet to "fill in the gaps" in the coverage. Frequently, it's the way we first find out about some players too. Someone posts something on our site ... some one goes to see them, tells us they agree, etc ...

You can say something about a team not doing well, but we don't allow individual attacks, particularly on a player. Read some of the posts on other web sites (ncpreps.rivals.com or charlotte.com) and you will find that they normal end up in name-calling. That's what we are trying to avoid.

This is what I like about this forum. But to be honest, I had a situation on here last year with a poster who was slamming the athletic program where my son attends high school at and nothing was said to him. In fact, he is now a moderator in another forum.

After this spring, I'm trying to be a bit more thorough than last year personally. We're always going to miss stuff.

BUT ... the standards need to be enforced from below, by the members instead of imposed from above by the moderators. We've got a group of people who are very good on this site and make great, valuable posts. They do a nice job of informing me about stuff I haven't read yet or may have missed because I was just having to skim the posts that day and not read them in detail.

At some point of time, new members will have to step forward and take the reins from the current moderators. Most of our players are graduating or have already left for college.

VI ... lets let that sleeping cat continue his snooze.

    Andy Partin's Baseball background

I would also like to know Andy's baseball back ground! Always find it interesting how people have developed a keen eye for baseball talent!
