They would have been better off just rescheduling it...its like sticking needles in your eyes, actually most of them probably would have rather done that. I remember last year when I played in 40 degree weather I was ready to die, I couldn't even imagine it being damp and frigid. That sucks for each of them, but sometimes things like that happen.

    Hoggard 2

Cold and windy conditions in the east also, but New Bern's bats warmed up quickly. New Bern's David Towarnicky hit a solo blast over right-center field fence into a 20 plus mph wind and followed with a double and RBI later in the game. New Bern's Matt Sanders hit an absolute bomb that was still going up when it crossed the left field fence. Garrett Gore was 1 for 3 with a RBI for Hoggard.

Adam Warren pitched 6 innings giving up 3 hits, striking out 13, and walking 3.
Joey Young pitch a scoreless 7th recording 1 k and giving up no hits.
Unsure of the starter for Hoggard, but Kyle Mussellman pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief, recording 4 k's and walking 1.

no game at Ragsdale today - could be they moved it to Western Guilford - the top is off the visitors dugout at Ragsdale so they may have moved it if they didn't postpone for the weather.

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    :weeping:

I'll give you something to cry about. There's over a foot of snow on Watauga's field, which goes nicely with the near hurricane-force wind gusts. If you're playing baseball, quit your whining!

    North Meck vs South Meck

What a strange, strange game. I got there a few minutes before 4 expecting to see a gathering crowd...there was no one. The AD told me, " Nobody is coming. It's too cold" "Hmmmph" I said, " You'll see" I suggested to him to hold up the game to allow those socially late NM supporters to arrive. By the time the scouts got settled in, the NM crowd arrived and the umpires came out from the new, heated umpires locker room, the game began.

Despite the final score of 10-6, SM, you would not believe that the pitching, overall, was dominating. After SM starter Matt Layman retired the side in order, Tom Porter took the mound. 1st pitch...91...2nd pitching breaking ball...89. Wow, SM was in trouble!!! Tom was overpowering, but he was missing his zone by inches. The SM batters were patient and drew some walks. The key batter in the 1st was Jonathan Ratledge. Jonathan responded with a hard hit double to the fence that scored two runs. The second inning showed Porter's skill as he completely dominated the SM hitters...Matt Layman continued to show his stuff and shutdown NM. The 3rd inning was the story. Alan Park crushed a HR and NM ended the 3rd with a 6-3 lead. SM showed why they are ranked so highly by battling NM to tie it and eventually take the lead.

SM brought in lefty jr, Ryan Morris, and he completely dominated the NM hitters the next 3 innings....facing 10 batters with 7 K's.

NM brought in fireballer Zack Rosenbaum with the bases loaded and no outs. He retired the side 1-2-3...no runs. Zack looked great and was receiving some tough calls from the HP umpire.

The players that had great games and were noticed by the scouts:

    - Alan Park, NM...wow, he has become a monster!!! He can flat out hit.
    - Reid Rollinson, SM...outside of Ratledge, Reid is the most dangerous hitter on the team. He eats up fastballs
    - Matt Andruss, SM..Big Matt can power with the best of 'em.
    - Ben Heath, NM...new transfer from Weddington will be the best catcher in the city by his senior season if not before. He sets up well behind the plate and receives the ball softly.
    - Damien Manzetti, NM...came in to pitch the 6th inning and showed why everyone is marveling about him. Great mechanics and can reach 94....a true raw, blue chipper!
    - Sam Pierce, NM...although Sam didn't do a lot, he just looks like an athlete

Even though it was a sloppy game, South Meck proved that they can rally at any time and do not get down or nervous if facing a deficit. They are a very mature team and they showed it last night.

Do both teams have room to improve?...you betcha! Are both teams deserving of their ranking?...you betcha. When they get their defense settled in and the bats get going...they are two of the best.

    Norht Meck vs. South Meck

Tough game between two tough teams! Chilled to the bone and having to start 45 mins late made this one tough on all involved. Congrats to the N. Meck hitters that kept this game going, Cavasini 2-4, Manzetti 2-4, Parks 2-4 hr., Pou 2-2. Kudos to S.Mecks's hitting and pitching. These teams shouuld go far.
