    Reynolds 4 - NW Guilford 3

This was a great game to watch, but unlike the games these teams played on Friday there wasn't much hitting. Mostly it was one base at a time with each team only collecting 4 hits.

Brett Page (Sr.) was the starting pitcher for NWG. He gave up 3 runs on 1 hit, 3 K's, 3 BB's and one hit batter.

Will Cornelius (Jr.) pitched the 4th inning and 1 batter in the 5th. He didn't give up any runs on 1 hit, 1 K, and 0 BB's.

Nick Rogers (Jr.) pitched the rest of the game, facing 12 batters, giving up 1 run (the game winner) on 2 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2.

Jay Laramore (Sr.) started on the mound for RJR. He pitched four innings and faced 3 batters in the 5th. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, had 7 K's and 1 BB's.

Torrey Johnson (Sr.) pitched in the 5th and 6th innings facing 7 batters. He gave up 0 runs on 0 hits, had 2 K's and 1 BB.

Dustin Johnson (Jr.) came in to pitch the 7th inning and set them down 1-2-3 to preserve the victory.

Reynold's first run came in the first inning as Nick DeRose (Sr.) walked, advanced to 2nd on a single to CF by Torrey Johnson (Sr.) and went to 3B when the CF bobbled the ball. Nick scored when Jay Laramore (Sr.) grounded out 4-3.

In the top of the third Reynolds scored two more runs. Dustin Johnson (Jr.) walked, stole 2nd, and went to third when the pitcher threw the ball into CF trying to pick him off 2nd. Dustin scored on a sacrifice fly to CF by Torrey Johnson (Sr.). Nick DeRose walked, stole 2nd, stole 3rd, and scored on a sac fly to LF by David Orr (Jr.)

A side note: Houston Summers (Sr.) is the NWG catcher. He's got a pop time of 1.8 seconds and is heading to Va. Tech next year. However, as Coach Welch said, "You don't steal off the catcher, you steal off the pitcher". Four bases were stolen by Reynold's in the 3rd inning and on two of them Nick DeRose had such a huge jump on the pitcher that he stole both bases standing up.

In the bottom of the fourth inning NWG scored their first two runs. The first batter, Nick Rogers (Jr.) struck out but reached 1B when the ball was missed by the RJR catcher. Just like it always seems to happen, two outs later Will Cornelius (Jr.) hit a HR over the LC fence to drive in 2 runs.

In the 5th inning NWG scored their last run of the game. Michael Thompson (Sr.) led off with a single and stole 2nd. David Garrett (Jr.) walked. An error at SS loaded the bases. Michael then scored on a ground out 6-3.

Reynolds scored the final (and winning) run in the 6th when David Orr (Jr.) walked, went to 2nd on a sac bunt by Drew Bostian (Sr.) and scored on Hunter Boehme's (So.) bloop single over the first baseman's head into shallow RF.

Jay Laramore had a defensive gem in the 3rd inning. With one out and a runner on first, Houston Summers hit a rocket back at Jay's head. Jay caught the ball as he fell to his back on the mound. From his back he threw over to first base to double up the NWG runner! Quite a play. He actually caught another shot hit at him by Michael Wright to end the first inning.

    WP - Torrey Johnson (1-0)
    LP - Nick Rogers (0-1)

    RJR Hitters:
    Dustin Johnson - 1/2, 2B, 2BB, R, SB
    Nick DeRose - 0/1, 2BB, sacbunt, 2R, 2SB
Torrey Johnson - 1/2, sacfly, RBI
    Jay Laramore - 1/4, RBI
David Orr - 0/1, sacfly, RBI, BB, R
    Hunter Boehme - 1/3, RBI

    NWG Hitters:
    Nick Rogers - 1/3, 2B, RBI
    Will Cornelius - 1/2, HR, 2RBI's, BB
    Michael Thompson - 1/3, R
    John Neese - 1/3

Reynolds is now 3-0 on the year.

This week Reynolds plays North Davidson at home on Tuesday, North Forsyth away on Wednesday, and South Rowan away on Friday.

Phillip O. Berry played @ West Meck this afternoon and West Meck won 13-7.

Senior first baseman Justin Gray got the start for West and also picked up the win for his first varsity win. He only pitched 2 innings after getting hit in the right palm with a lined shot hit right back at him. Justin also went deep with a 385-400 foot shot.

Also hitting well for West was Seth Stringfield, who went 3-4 and upped his average to .555 (10-18). Daniel Jones added with a 2-4 performance also, with a double.

I don't know who pitched for Berry because I got this information from a West Meck player. He told me they played pretty sloppy but Coach Carpino had the young guys throwing for them this afternoon.

The Indians improve to 3-2 on the year
