I had the (pleasure) of Mendy Mckenzie beating us at the forbush scrimmage. I enjoyed watching her work. good speed great movement and she hit her spots so well that I think she could throw that ball through the eye of a needle. It looked like nothing was the same speed, break or location ever. Mendy had us off balance the whole game.
I know I will be reading and hearing about her alot this season.
She seems like a great young lady also. For that matter so did the complete West forsyth club.

Dawgfan, thanks for the kind words and you are right about Mendy. She started the season in midseason form, but she worked very hard over the winter to get to this point. Since school started in August Mendy has worked out 4-5 a week at 6:30 AM at the Y in Clemmons. Both Mendy and her catcher, Brittany McKinney, spent hours on hours over the winter lifting and conditoning. They would also would work on pitching 2-3 times a week in the evenings, plus those two would drive to Chapel Hill twice a month for lessons with the UNC staff.

So any success Mendy achieves this year will come because she has paid the price to get where she is today. Mendy is also one of those who is quick to give credit for any success to her teammates and coaches. She also is quick to mention that it takes 9 on the field and everyone in the dugout to make a team successful. West Forsyth has 5 of the starting 9 who have hit at least one HR in games and 7 of the 9 are batting .360 or better.

West plays in one of the toughest 4A conferences in the state where 4 out of the 5 teams could beat another on any given day. West Forsyth and North Davidson are ranked by some to be 2 of the top 5 4A teams in NC. So Mendy and team certainly will have to come to play every day.

UNC recruited Mendy for a reason and in my opinion it wasn't all about pitching, but more for her work ethic that really separated her from most.

    Davie v North Iredell

Davie 4 North Iredell 2 on Friday

It was good to see the team come together for a common cause. After a tough game against East Rowan and West Rowan, the ladies had a great practice on Tuesday. The team made no errors and hit the ball, as they have all season. The difference is that this time, the ball found a gap.

Congrats ladies and keep up the work. Remember, the real season begins on April 5!
