    Josh Hamilton (Athens Drive HS).

Best high school player that has come around in many years in North Carolina. Carl Crawford of the D-Rays labeled him as the best player he has ever seen. Let's hope Josh can get things turned around off the field. He is a natural.

Eric Faulk (New Hanover), Jason Hamilton (Athens), Shawn Gallagher (New Hanover), Trot Nixon (New Hanover), Paul Wilder (Cary), Ryan Gordon (Rose), Brien Taylor (West Carteret?)... etc.

North Carolina had some flat out studs in the 90's. Who will be next? Neighborgall, Powell, Willard, Bard, Maybin... ?

What do you consider best? How far they went after high school or most successful in high school stat wise.

If you coached them in at Hallsboro, then I probably know you since I am from that area originally and played against Legrande in HS.

Crest played Harding back in the Ray Durham days, one of my best friends pitched for Crest and had the chance to pitch vs Ray. I'm surprised he doesn't have neck problems with some of the shots Ray was hitting over his head.

Alec Zumwalt from East Forsyth....drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 5th round in 1999 and was the player to be named later in the Dan Kolb trade....should start this year in AAA for Milwaukee and could possibly be on the 40 man team by the end of the year

Wes Helms came out of NC didnt he? I think he played at Ashbrook. My brother played ball with Donnie Poles so I got to watch him play a lot when I was younger. I once saw him catch a pop fly on the run in the right field corner of Harding, turn, and throw a one hop line drive to beat the guy tagging from second by a step or two. I think he got drafted out of highschool as well. Goin a bit farther than 20 years there was garry hill and some of the guys that played on that legion team together that were very good.

One of Gary Hill's team mates was Bob Rhodes, coach at Olympic. Together they won the American Legion World Series, 1965 I think.

Wes did play at Ashbrook. Ashbrook was playing at Harding late in Wes' senior year. One of the Atlanta scouts was at the game to see him play. Wes was the last player to take B/P for Ashbrook that day. For Wes, the coach broke out two dozen new baseballs. He put on a very impressive display.
