In each and every community there are those people who year in and year out step up to the plate and spend countless hours coaching, coordinating leagues, teams and events for our youth. How often do you see someone recognized for their efforts. Here is your opportunity to spread the word about anyone in your community that has provided these type services, gone beyond the call of duty, and helped those kids in the community. Please take a second and let us know of those folks in your area. Who are they and what type of work did they do?:trophy:

The timing of this thread is impecable. I first met Bob Ramsay around 1992 during my first year coaching in the Mooresville Midget Football League. He was a large man, about 6'3" and 250 or so, but was as gentle as a lamb except when he needed to exert his authority. Bob was the MMFL commisioner at the time. Mooresville now has 8 teams, 4 in the each division (midget/pee-wee) as well as the 8 cheerleading teams that are included with the football teams. He kept the books, equipment and ran the show (physicals, weigh ins, scheduling, parents, game day logistics, concesions you name it) with fairness to each kid involved. As the years went by my respect for Bob grew. His tireless efforts amazed even me. He continued to run the league even though his own son was now grown. Anyone who has taken on a task such as this knows the long hours and commitment it takes to come back each season. Bob was that kind of man. In the 6 years that I coached he was always there to help me in any way I needed. I always went out of my way to help him after my tenure in the the league as a coach was up. I have been the game day announcer for the MMFL for the past 11 years. Bob was a fixture on game day in and around Mooresville Stadium. He knew his job, he was deditcated he gave it his very best effort. Bob Ramsay lost his battle with cancer yesterday. He was one of the finest men I have ever known. Thank you Lord for men like him.....and I dont want to forget his wife Jan who was always patient enough to share her husband with the rest of us. May you rest in peace my friend.

VI: I wish I had met him. Guys like this are the core and backbone of youth sports. Without them, the rest of the world would be grumbling about "why isn't someone doing something."

We'll be send our prayers along to his family.

    Unsung Hero

One of the most 'unsung heroes' that I know is Joel Clark ... Joel has spent the last few years dedicating his time, efforts and emotions to the East Meck Eagles & their field...Joel is the 1st Base coach for the Eagles and the steadfast pillar for the boys on that Varsity team. Joel is one of those special souls who is not paid for any of his time and effort at the school - he is there strictly for the kids. He spends the rest of his time at Providence Rd Baptist coaching basketball and softball...I dont know personally what I or my son would have done the last 2 years without the love and support of him and his awesome wife Heather who shares(really just GIVES) EM Joel for the baseball season. Joel is the peacekeeper, the uplifter, the fixer of all those boys problems at home or on the field...he spends countless hours on the field, phones, or at the boys' homes ... he is a big brother to all of them...Joel laughs whenever I tell him this but I compare his personality and charisma to that of Jesus's ... whereever you see Joel, you see a crowd of kids around him with him in the center ... teaching, loving and coaching....Joel Clark is my unsung hero !! :woohoo: :woohoo:
