    Hopewell 3 Central Cabarrus 2

WP - Andy Oliver, Save - Dusty White LP - Matt Killian

Andy Oliver stepped up big for the Titans - He pitched his heart out for his second win, and came through with a clutch double in the 5th to bring home the 2nd and 3rd runs of the game for the Titans. Both teams played good defense. Andy pitched into the 6th inning, giving up only 6 hits and 2 earned runs, with 2 left on base for White. Dusty pitched the remaining 6th and 7th innings for the save. Key hitting for Central Cabarrus - Auten and Palmer had 2 hits each, and Kirkpatrick had a double. For Hopewell, along with Andy's key double, Wes Dozier was 2 for 3, and Dusty White was 2 for 3, including a double. The Meca 8 race is getting a little tighter with each game!

I can't help but appreciate your liberal use of NORTH MECK BLUE in your Hopewell post. Be careful or you'll get into the same trouble that Kevin Richardson did when he showed up spying at a game wearing a NORTH MECK BLUE hat.

:imagestor Is this the same Kevin Richardson who has a reserved box seat in the Titan dugout right next to Coach Billings?

    Beef with the Blue

:umno: Last night at Central Cab, the umpire in the field made a call which really bothers me and more importantly, penalizes a headsy agressive runner who makes a clean slide directly into the base in an attempt to break up a double play. The secondbaseman for Central took the relay from short and instead of stepping to the left or right out of the direct path of the runner stepped directly toward first base in front of the base and of course the runners momentum took him into the legs of the fielder and in fact; did break up the double play. The umpire ruled interference on the runner and awarded the double play. The runner did nothing wrong according to the HS Rules since he slid directly in a straight line into (not past) the base and it was the action of the fielder (not the runner) that caused the contact. I suggest the umpires look at the rule more closely in determining interference. Stop taking the smart agressive nature of the sport away.

    Comeback player...

Also have to mention Drew Rochester whose position number is scattered through out the score card turning ground balls into outs, and handling the pop ups well also.

Drew is a great young man, great family, great story. Drew has come a long way in a short time. 2 yrs ago he did not make his middle school team. Last summer he severely injured his arm while throwing during a workout. "I have never seen a bandage that big on a person's arm". Now is playing Varsity baseball for a great team in the MECA-8. He has made all of us that know him very proud as he has continued to work hard, listen and learn. Good skills, great attitude and work ethic. Keep an eye on this young man at Hopewell for the next 2 years, he is only a sophomore. He will definitely be an impact player for Hopewell HS.

    North Meck Blue

It looked alot darker on my screen - how did it get that washed out? <G>

Kevin Richardson's son (Brett) made up for Kevin's transgression in the eyes of the Hopewell fans with a triple some time last week. We thought he might be jumping ship so his son's heroics saved his B?tt.
